Is it just me or do the fingers get momentarily smaller just before the growth? Has a really dramatic effect I must say!

Good eye~ I scale the joints down a tad right before the swell, then overshoot, and then back to normal. It's the similar animation to what you see in cartoons with the "squash and stretch" techniques. Adds a lot more "oomph" to an action!
