This is a great review! I used to live in Charleston years ago, and it's so nice the way they have preserved their history. It's a beautiful city. This character, Mel Gibson's character, is loosely based on Francis Marion "the Swamp Fox".

This is one of those movies that is a very enjoyable watch, but couldn’t be further from the truth in terms of historical accuracy. (I mean, the Americans DID in fact win the Revolutionary War – and it was in large part thanks to CRITICAL French Naval support that disrupted the Royal Navy’s blockades along the Eastern Coast etc.), but I mean this is another “Braveheart” situation where Mel Gibson’s character is so detached from actual history. To be clear, I enjoyed this movie a lot when I was a teenager and it first came out. I still CAN enjoy it – no doubt! Thanks for the reaction, as always! Cheers.

Well every Mel gibson movie are either Ultra patriotic to the point it's absurd or is super christian.

P.S. Ellie, Heath Ledger (the Joker from “The Dark Knight”) played the oldest son in this movie, and the British/Colonel(?) who ordered the plantation to be burned & all of the Rebel wounded to be executed was the same actor that played……LUCIUS MALFOY IN THE HARRY POTTER MOVIES :D

Harbor Kat

I know it was polled as well as heavily requested. Larry knows his quality and my guess is that the YouTube edited version will drop right around The 4th of July. I’m missing Michelle Moonsugar! Still enjoy watching “Ellie’s World” where everything is good and her favorite or not good and she doesn’t like it. Heart on her sleeve.

Anders Pettersson

If ever looking for a historical move wit a great soundtrack that is perfect, try Last of the mohicans or Gettysburg, not exactly in the same era nut somewhat close

If you want a more historically focused look at the revolution PLEASE watch the John Adams Miniseries!

The music was done by John Williams. That’s why it was good.

Andrew Morgan

I have been Ultimate for 3 months and plan to continue into a 4th month into July. However, my request won't be Flags of our Fathers most likely. My 3 requests were First Man, Miracle, and We Were Soldiers.

Andrew Clifton

About to watch this now but my prediction with Ellie is tears, "You bastard" , tears, "Son of bitch", tears and yes, tears. I can't wait.

Andrew Morgan

As an Ultimate member planning on going into July, I have so many movies I'm thinking about. Ellie can become so emotional that I'm afraid several of them might break her! I'll think about my decision in the coming weeks.

THIS!!! Please, please, please do a reaction to the HBO mini-series, “John Adams.” It is one of the best depictions of the American Revolution — both in its historical accuracy & as having great production quality. (Same producers from “Band of Brothers,” “Saving Private Ryan,” and “The Pacific.”) I think there are 7 or 8 episodes, each one is like an hour or so. It’s INCREDIBLE.

Ernesto Gastelum

your last sentence was so unnecessary because she pointed it out in the movie that he was Lucius Malfoy

2021-10-03 19:52:31 To make a long story short , this war was the American Revolution during 18th century. During that time America was made up of 13 states called the 13 colonies, ruled by Great Britain. The 13 colonies threw off the British rule , and fought to become 1 nation . Winning that war against the British was start United States of America. During that time is when the Declaration of Independence was written & signed July 4th 1776 . Thats why Americans celebrate 4th of July . Compared to the other countries in the world, United States is a very young country. United States is only 245 years old since it became 1 nation
