The moment with Walt and Jane is on of the most important moments of the entire show. To me this is where his character really first crosses the line too far. There is an argument that he was protecting Jesse but he was also trying to get into a position to be able to keep working with Gus because that's what he wanted.

I don't recall from when I watched this before, but I think Gus already knew EVERYTHING about Walter, and specifically went to the DEA and sponsored the Fun Run because he wanted to know if they suspected anything about Walter.
