The way I interpreted that whole domestic abuse scene was the wife was backtracking and lying about liking it because she was afraid of the consequences of telling on her husband. She seemed terrified the entire scene and I thought the point of the scene was that Jesse couldn't help even though he wanted to, showing the limit of his powers to help people in his current law abiding paradigm.

I definitely see this read of the scene, though Ivan is pretty against this interpretation. I think that was the intention and the scene muddies it with some poor directing/editing.

I'm sick to the tits of people ragging on the casting of Scarlett Johansson in the (undoubtedly going to be regretable) live action remake of the Mamoru Oshii directed animated feature Ghost in the Shell. FFS she's a full body android, the other characters being cast white I have beef with but not The Major.
