Do you prefer videos where you're a character in the video or just someone watching?

It does depend on the situation. Like if it's a teasing situation, then being part of the narritive or POV works great for it. But if it's other people as a story, then the fly in the wall works. But I'm sure everybody else explained it in a different way like I did.

There's a subcategory of POV: performative media, like vlogs tracking growth, webcam shows, or any other recording where they address the camera as an audience rather than "you" specifically. It can be a pretty decent compromise that doesn't break immersion.
