I've been making longer and longer sets, with bigger environments and more detailed characters which is impacting my release schedule. I used to upload almost every week, but smaller sets. Whereas now I upload far less frequently, but with larger sets.

What do you prefer?

• Larger sets, but less frequent?

• Smaller sets, but more frequent?

More context about render times: This is a bit of a generalization, but usually 1 render would take approximately 4 - 6 hours. So every day, I can maybe squeeze in 2 - 3 renders.

If we take the office set, that's about 368 renders, give or take. That's 122 days of rendering. On weekends, I can do more renders, so that number would very likely be more around the 100.

In my opinion, this is like a very good movie or video game. It doesn't matter if we have to wait for a long time : if the project is incredible at the end, it's worth it. What you do is art. Art takes time. Don't worry. So, for me, I prefer a long wait for a long project. Like, your Last of Us project, for example : I know it's going to be amazing and beautiful (your scenes are so romantic : that's what I love the most. It's not just sex.) So, it doesn't matter if I have to wait.

That's really, really nice of you to say, thanks! As the creator, I'm always torn in multiple directions by my own mind. "This is taking too long." or "I haven't uploaded in a while." are definitely things I've been thinking recently. I've even been weirdly hesitant sometimes to upload something because I haven't uploaded recently? Which is a weird, ass-backwards logic to have. I say it a lot, but I believe it, everything is a balancing act. Maybe do a big set, then multiple smaller ones. We'll see how the vote ends. Also, regarding your final statement, thank you so much! And I wholeheartedly agree! :) Just banging is great but it's 100 times more interesting to have these emotional moments and have... well... emotions involved.

My philosophy is quality > quality, plus I love having more angles!

Hydroneii

I don’t know how others would feel about waiting though however, but I’m ok with it^^

Hydroneii

I just realized I said quality twice XD *Quality > Quantity*

Most definitely larger sets even though it’ll take longer it will be worth the wait takes time to perfect what you do! :)

Well, 100 days means only 3-4 sets per year, and for me that's going to be a hard No. I think your striving for realism is admirable, but some compromises could be made to lower render times without anyone besides you ever noticing.

I definitely prefer the longer sets and with text preferable. Now 400 renders may be a bit on the extreme side but I don’t imagine you plan to do that again lol. Definitely looking forward to it, but that set will take a few sittings to read through I imagine lol.

slop_art

I'm a little confused unfortunately. You say quality over quantity and you mention liking more angles. But, more angles is more renders, is it not? Making it quantity? Or did you mean it more as quality being a longer set and quantity being shorter sets because I could theoretically do more of them, making it more quantitative? 😆

slop_art

Thanks for the input! It's also a little harder to schedule larger sets. Shorter, maybe 10-ish sets are easy to squeeze a release in here and there. Big projects I think require a little extra consideration when they're released.

slop_art

Well yeah, I don't think I'll do 400+ renders every day. Larger sets, I consider something like... over 40/50-ish renders? I think, correct me if I'm wrong, you and I just have very opposing views on some parts of the process. Although we both, I hope, like the end product. I remember you voicing your opinion on some smaller details of my character designs in the past, basically echoing what you've said here. And again, I disagree but I respect and value your standpoint still. I have a totally different view than you on what I do, but I still value your input. There's definitely a case to be made for me maybe putting in too much effort into insignificant things. But, as the creator, I really feel I have to. If I start half-assing and putting in less effort into things, I think you'd be able to tell. Can I put in 10% less effort into something that's tucked away somewhere in a corner or far in the background, sure. Is the way I work right now not 100 efficient? Yes. But I really don't think I'd like the end result if I compromised more than I already do in ways that I don't show and only I know. It's definitely food for thought though. Where can I optimize for quicker render times. Something to work on. I want to end by saying thanks for your input. Although we have differing views on this, it's allowed me to see this issue from your standpoint. Good comment. 👍

slop_art

Yeah, not planning on making 400 renders the norm haha. Thanks for the input! 🙂

Hydroneii

Yea I see where Im confusing you. I’ll try and make it simpler: I feel renders sets between 50-65 renders are the perfect amount to say Quality > Quantity. And by quantity I mean the amount of sets created.^^ (sorry for the confusion🙃)

slop_art

Ahhhright right right. Gotcha. Thanks for letting me know! :) Yeah, I could've taken it like three different ways, what you said. Thanks for clarifying twice for my smooth brain.

I think you should base it on the story you want to tell. If the story merits a longer set, do that! If it's a short story, do a short set. Ya know?

slop_art

Well, I think obviously, yeah. This is more to gauge what YOU ALL would like. Your preference. Longer stories/sets or shorter ones.
