This is gonna be a big 'ol text post which I'm just gonna type out as it pops up in my head.
also, it's almost midnight here, so bad brain right now.

I'm very happy with the support that I've been receiving for the last couple of years. Through Tumblr-geddon, changing my content from SFM to DAZ, no longer doing video game characters, but original characters and most recently my HDD dying, I think I've been somewhat lucky in still being here.

Thank you for that. Thank you so much for that.

However, I'm not making enough money to do this full-time. COVID impacted everyone, including me, so I'm at the point that I have to try something different.

I want to try doing some commissions, but the big problem for me is that I have no frame of reference on what to price myself. Most of the examples of commission prices that I could find online were.. not applicable to me for a variety of reasons.

So I'm kind of asking if you have some input for me regarding commission prices?

OH, also, again, midnight brain; What kind of content do you want to see more of? Let me know!

that is a tough one slop.. few years ago 50 usd got you a short vid with a couple of characters.. i would think about a tiered commision.. ie one model.. two models .. three.. plus voice acting..so my guess is between 50 and 100 usd for a five min scene with two or more models.. hope this starts the conversation!

I dunno, 50-100 USD for a solid five minute animated scene with *at least* two characters is a hell of a lowball in my opinion. Look around at how much similar creators charge (justifiably) for a singe rendered frame with multiple characters, let alone an animation of the same quality.

divebomber

maybe but remember who can afford to throw over one hundred dollars for short vid.especially when they are already donating to the site...alot of creators already have the tools they need and many models to use ie Mass Effect comes to mind.. dont get me wrong i know animating professionally is very expensive..so in the end the content creator has to figure a fair figure for the effort..maybe float a trial commission and see how it goes.. thoughts

Hi SloP, An established artist such as yourself is capable of charging what their time to art ratio works out too. What you should do is look at what you want to produce. Let’s say you only want to do only single scenes. How long does it take to create a portrait from your OC's without or with backgrounds? How long if two characters... How long for a full pin-up pose again with or without background and if adding a second character normally artists charge less for a second character added in. Once you know the time needed you can figure out your price per different scene… Commission prices should always be advertised as price per piece and not per hour as the buyer wants to control their costs. Here is an example from one I’ve ordered from (and frankly he isn’t as good as you) $15 portrait no background + $5 for added character $25 full pin-up $5 for added character For scenes $35 for initial character + $7 for each added character I have another who charges $15 for 4 scenes using his OC’s What is someone wants to have you create a piece with their OC? Some charge extra over their prices others not. I know this is long winded but I like to see artists succeed. I hope this helps. Francis

I agree with Francisw on the approximate order of prices. as for animations, a five-minute scene will be a normal price from $ 70. you need to see how much time and effort you will have to create such things and, based on this, adjust prices in the future. you are a wonderful artist, I think people will not mind paying for your comissions 😉 sorry for bad eng)

Totally forgot about your second question, I would like to see where you would have gone with the Fantasy set. They looked quite interesting,

slop_art

Well, well, well, coincidentally I'm doing fantasy sets for all characters, I finished Daria's this week. I've also said in the past that I want to do a long-form narrative thing, and I think setting it in a medieval-light-fantasy-ish environment would work really well. Thanks for letting me know.
