with this, would you recommend the rest of the room being dark, so doing in the evening / dark space of the room? And with the lack of light there, what were your settings like?

yeah! you really need full control over your light so full darkness is paramount. I am not sure what my settings were but probably around f/2.0 (my go to) and shutter speed around 200, and then adjusting ISO accordingly.
