Sorry for the delay on new pages, but I wanted to plan out the rest of volume 5 before proceeding.  There should be a few animations in the mix as well.

On the subject of payments, I'm planning to switch from pay-per-image to pay-per-month with the charge upfront option enabled.  This means that when you make a new pledge or edit your current pledge, you are charged that amount immediately and then for subsequent months you are charged on the first of the month.  (It would make more sense if you got charged every 30 days starting from when you pledged, but that is not how patreon currently works.)

This should have some benefits for patrons:

  • Instant access - With the charge up front option enabled, I can just put the bonus access links directly in the patron feed instead of sending them out at the end of the month.
  • Better budget control - It's a lot more straight forward when you don't have to guess how many images I'll upload.
  • Come and go as you please - If you want to change your pledge amount from one month to the next, you'll be able to do that without worrying about being in the wrong category at the end of the month.

For me, there's an additional benefit that I won't have to deal with as many bots and pledge cancelers.  Also it'll be less discouraging to work on animations, which take a lot longer than comics but still only count as one image.

For the tier levels, here's what I'm thinking based on what people are actually paying currently:

  • $3 - Early access
  • $5 - Bonus images
  • $7 - No text versions
  • $10 - High res versions
  • $20 - ?

How much do you care about rewards vs just supporting the comic with an amount you're comfortable with?   Does anyone have a burning desire to pay more or less than these amounts?

The bonus images are fairly sparse, I've considered including them on the $3 tier as well and having the $5 tier just be $2 cooler than it.

For high end pledges, I've considered doing a sketch request tier or a Q&A with the characters.  If I was going to do a sketch request, I'd want it to be of one my existing characters, so that it creates content everyone else can enjoy.

I plan to roll this out pretty soon, so let me know your thoughts in the comments or via direct message.

I like this change. Better budget control like you said, and gives a good spread of options for varying support means. I do agree that bonus images are both sparse and not terribly user friendly.

I'm paying a dollar an image, up to twice a month, and I'm paying for early access. I don't mind changing to monthly payment, but I'd have to think about the price increase.

I use Patreon for support, and I prioritize supporting more artists over more rewards, enlarged budget permitting. That said I would (continue) to pay ~$3 a month in this case.

When does this take effect?
