Was Jinshi in particular targeted? I doubt it. Maomao stated it earlier in the episodes. A bunch of traps were laid out, without any real hope of them succeeding. If it worked then a medium to high rank noble would probably lose their lives, but I don't think they knew it was Jinshi.

ok lemme finally watch the episode :) I also downloaded the Flaming Shark's reaction to more episodes of Gintama, just released, therefore I will stay up late hahahaha, time to rewind. :) <3

I'm just going to speculate here. In the beginning was Lakan trying to get Maomao from the brothel for 10 years? I thought he might have wanted to use Maomao for some purpose. What is his job, anyway? And at the end, Maomao thought Lakan's presence at the ceremonial building wasn't coincidence. What was he expecting to happen? Did he plan for Maomao to be there, if he planned the whole thing? He obviously wasn't expecting her to be harmed. It seems like Maomao has been unconscious for quite some time, which worries me. Now, I don't think she died, but we might be in for a touch-and-go situation. Head injuries can be difficult, with brain swelling, even now. Did you notice Jinshi paid no attention whatsoever to the threat to himself and worried only about Maomao. I mean, he didn't give orders, he carried her himself (not one person murmured a word in protest, or followed him). Why did he walk so slowly? The whole thing seemed strange behavior if she didn't die. And his face. Not just determined, but angry. I see changes in Jinshi ahead. I think he's going to exercise some imperial family power. Maybe stand up to his brother, even.
