It’s important to understand a few points about Giselle’s “The Zombie” Schrift. In order for an opponent to become a zombie, she they have to be splashed with Giselle’s blood specifically. That’s why Ikkaku didn’t turn into a zombie when Bambi’s blood splashed his face. Next is the difference in how Giselle turns Quincies into zombies vs how she turns Shinigami into zombies. In the case of a Quincy, they need to be truly dead in order for her Schrift to have any effect. Whereas in the case of a Shinigami, all she has to do is splash her blood onto them even once. So it doesn’t necessarily mean Toshiro is dead, it just means he was incapacitated or out of commission long enough that she was able to get her blood on him
