I am loving this so much, I ended up reading the manga. I don't recommend you spoil yourself, but I would just say that given how closely this is following the manga, I think we're in for a fantastic ride 😊 And the whole idea of going off to meet some random older guy to experience sex, whilst I get that's not a typically romantic BL trope, that's a very real thing for gay teenagers so it feels pretty realistic.

Cédric Bardoux

Same director as Our Dining Table. What I like the most is that the story of the teenagers is not just some random shots, it's real scene. We got a deeper background story.

This is the first show in a while where I want to actually read the manga because I’m SO interested and curious about the story. With all the context clues they’re giving, I really really really hope that nothing traumatic happened to Ren because of Hide because I will be devastated. Just gonna pray Ren stole Hide’s girlfriend or something 😭

Actually, I don't think Hide has done anything in the past. I think more that he knew what happened to Ren and he doesn't want to tell Kazuma because he thinks Kazuma might feel guilty then. And Ren probably doesn't want Kazuma to have any contact with Hide because he's probably afraid that Hide might tell Kazuma what happened. Must be something really bad.. what if Ren maybe tried to commit suicide? 😦 We still don't know why Kazuma was in the hospital. Maybe it has something to do with Ren and he felt guilty? Or Ren didn't know Kazuma was in the hospital and thought Kazuma just left without a word? So many questions! 😆 I'm so excited to see what it will be like in the end. 🥰

I’ve already read the manga (first time ever reading the source material first) but I am an expert at not spoiling. The show has already given you a hint at part of it though. The background when Kazuma is rushed to hospital and when aren’t meets the man are the same background. Good luck guessing what that means. Lol. Two culture things… The reasons someone might change their name in Japan are…. 1. They just did not like their name. I am pretty sure in this case, you have to go to court and show that the name causes you distress somehow and the court will either accept or refuse. Ren’s childhood last name is Saotome 早乙女. I have never met anyone with that name because it is not common in the north, however it is a fairly standard last name. That said, the kanji literally mean “early Virgin”. Japanese people would pay no attention to that (Imagine if you met someone named Baptiste, you would not think they were religious, it is just their name). However, since Ren lived abroad for a few years, it is possible foreign people might look the kanji up and tease him. 2. You can file for an alias. This gives you the right to legally use another name without technically changing your name. This is much easier since all you need to do is prove that someone calls you by that name. It can be as simple as someone sending you mail with the new name on it. 3. You could get adopted. Japan is the number one in the world for adult male adoptions. Companies here usually pass to the eldest son. If a company President or anyone else with a family business does not have a son, they will adopt a second or third son from another family. 4. You could get married. In Japan, married people are required to have the same last name, but either the woman or the man can change their last name. Usually the woman changes. But the man may change if the woman’s family is famous or the woman’s last name is super rare. From my perspective 1 or 2 seemed more likely. The second culture thing I want to look at is the age of consent. Japan changed the National age of consent from 13 to 16 on the very same day this show started. While the National age was 13, each prefecture had the right to enforce their own age of consent. In Tokyo, the age is 18. So even though Ren lies that he is 17 ( he is actually 14 or 15 as a 3rd year JHS student), that still makes him underage so the man takes off the second Kazuma mentions police. As for why Baby Ren tells Kazuma he will be in trouble, it is because he is covering for Hide. Hide is off with his girlfriend, but Kazuma told his mother he is staying with him.

I read the manga two days after the show was announced, since some of the community on another BL page often ask me for reviews and opinions. It is pretty close to the manga, but the story gets complicated (is that the right word?) And I wonder if they can make it in 8 eps. But they are doing great so far.

Oh really? 😄 That gets me even more excited!😁 Thank you for telling me. 😊
