A wonderful story in which humanities and acceptation were flowing without any control. The replacement should be Tokyo In April Is,,, Produced by MBS.

So... Tokyo in April is... starts next week and has the same screenwriter-director, so I expect quality. Went and read the manga as requested by netizen friends who can not read Japanese and the vibe is very very different. But the story is good. And it's about "sex friends" so there should be spiciness. It is not technically replacing this, as they are two different networks. TiAi is on MBS, the network that gave us about half of the Japanese BL in the past year. Speaking of networks, this show was on TBS. That is one of Japan's big 3 stations. It was popular enough for them to do a special and they announced last week that they will be selling DVDs. Hopefully that means that TBS will keep producing BL and the other big TV companies may join the game. I love the MBS BLs, but the thought of a station with the resources of TBS being in the genre. Fingers crossed.

Two culture notes... It is really interesting that Daddy Ueda calls his wife Mika-san. First off, in Japan people often call their spouses "Mom," and "Dad" after kids are born. But Daddy continues to refer to her as Mika. In Japanese, that sounds like he was really deeply in love with her. It's also interesting that he uses the 'san' honourific. We don't usually use san when we are really close to someone. Maybe she was older than him? Secondly, the "eventually we must part" thing is a Buddhist concept that pops up relatively frequently. It is even of my fave four character proverbs. 会者定離 (e-sha-jou-ri). The characters are meet-people-decided-part. The whole thing together is "All who meet must eventually part." So, it is not entirely surprising to me that Yutaka falls in that wormhole. About the series... Wow. This was well-done. The actors slayed. Kuuga Maeyama, who plays Tane, is one of a twin and they have been in a bunch of commercials, but this is his first TV drama. He's a natural. I have only seen the Minoru actor (Hiroki Iijima) once before, He is in a BL mini-movie called "We're Both Grooms." (Totally recommend. It is like 50 minutes long.) I think he did really good on the "small acting"... showing Minoru's inner feelings in subtle ways. I can not praise Atsushiro Inukai enough. I also think it is insane that he can play the tough bad guy in Kei x Yaku, the chaotic metacharacter in Man VS BL and then play Yutaka here. Dude is amazing. This series was soooo well done. I really love that all the angst and emotions actually served the story and did not feel likeit was just thrown in. And they did really well balancing the time with Tane with having a teensy bit of one on one time. Looking forward to the special. Just bought the Kindle version of the comic (in Japanese) too, because I need that in my life.
