This reminds me of the time I met a child who was lost when coming from the market and I took him to the chief's place that was closest to the market. The boy was about 4-5yrs. They took my phone number and home location then told me to go with the child and they will contact me when the parent was found. I freaked out big time. I was only 20 and visiting some friends in that village so the thought of showing up there with a child was ridiculous. But apparently that's was how it was done as the chief/police didn't have a place they could take the child to in the mean time. Luckily, the mom came rushing into the office just before I left. That experience freaked me out though. So I can see the realism in that particular storyline in this.
