My new favourite throuple - Day, Itt and cake. Bwahahah. My favourite thing in that whole saga is that the company belongs to Itt's family and he is ready to throw his parent's whole livelihood away for some cake. I have no idea how anything adds up. But I know this series is an Unforgotten Night spinoff so my expectations are so low, they are through the floor. For the subs... Let me just say, I just subbed a BL episode English to French. In a lot of places, the English did not make perfect sense, but I could google the Thai, and I was subbing after the video had been released. So I was probably able to make more sense of what was happening. However, the person subbing into English is subbing pre-release. They may or may not have access to video, and the master file probably has nothing other than the words spoken, so you never know who is speaking, which pronouns to use, and when there are multiple translation possibilities you do not have the context to pick the right one. That said, I feel like the bad subs on Bed Friend and many other shows are due to these issues, however the English here is sufficiently bad that I think the translator is either not a native speaker, does not care, or was not being paid well enough to not stick chunks of text in Google Translate. From the company's perspective, there really is no way for them to know how good the English is. They are not native speakers. And they are not paying enough to insist on certified translators. When I applied to translate, the company was just like, "You actually speak French, right?" And in my case, I have a degree in French, and I have translated all sorts of stuff, inclding Olympics and Paralympics, but that could all be a lie and how would they check?
