As of late I've been keeping these blurbs short, but with this video we tried so many new things that I'm taking the time to point some of them out. We typically stay away from shots that are blown out or highly exposed, as SFM's not great for lighting. We decided to give it a whirl given the position. I'm not overly thrilled with it, but I do like the gradients we pulled in lighting considering how blown out it is in some spots. The more I work in SFM, particularly with lighting, the more I lean towards utilizing a less realistic lighting setup and going for "what looks good".
The team actually ported some props and clothes from Resident Evil into SFM via Blender for the scene build, which is pretty awesome in the grand scheme of things. It's nice to know we now have the capability to start pulling models as needed, albeit simple ones.
On top of this, the scene was set up with both POV shots in mind from the get-go. I'm hoping we can get even better at lip syncing, as well as facial animations, and make multiple pov's a regular thing for each scene. It requires more time and planning, but a little extra time at the beginning equals a lot more content in the long run.
Speaking of facial animations, this is the first time we've had a true female pov where the male isn't just the male fit model we see so often. It was freeing to step away, even if I think Leon looks a bit derpy while he's fucking. But, I think most people DO look derpy while they're fucking, at least if they're into it. Claire's POV will be out next week if all goes to plan.
All that said, I am still on the mend. Yesterday was a pretty decent day in terms of pain, but today feels like two steps backwards progress wise. It took me an hour to get out of bed and make my way to the shower. I'm frustrated with the constant need to stretch to alleviate pain and heal, as well as my inability to work for more than a couple minutes at a time. When I do work it's as if I'm trying to peer through a fogged up window because I can't concentrate. All that said, I'm hanging in there and hopeful things will improve. Enjoy!
