This session was a nightmare for so many reasons, the main one being how scaling works when importing Daz models into Blender. I couldn't get the camera's convergence plane where it needed to be, and after a day of troubleshooting it I figured out it wasn't the camera, but in fact the models causing the issue. On importing from Daz they were scaled way, way up; as the camera has a limit of how far the convergence plane can go, this caused a massive problem.
Once I finally scaled the models back down and fixed the damage to them (the cave had massive holes that needed to be repaired or it would cause massive light leaks) I was finally able to get to work on animation and lighting. Some of the tentacles animations were ruined in the changes, so I finally did some animation of my own on those. The camera for non-VR was also in need of animation, so I went for a slightly uncomfortable bounce. It IS meant to be a horror shot, but I don't think it's so uncomfortable that you can't watch it. Not exactly what I hoped to begin my blender animation debut with, but it was fun to actually try animation in Blender instead of just lighting and scene setting.
So, it's not the gem of a release I had hoped for, but it is one more notch in my belt for Blender, and I learned a LOT. I need to publicly thank SFMPOV for this. They came through for Halloween, and they were patient in troubleshooting the session with me.
