This week has been pretty brutal in terms of failures, learning, and success. I'm not without determination, but it's been very trying for me with everything new I'm going through AND the inevitable mistakes that means I'm making as I learn the correct way of doing things. It's frustrating to re-render a video from scratch because of something I just didn't know, let alone because I did something wrong and should have known better. But, that's part of learning and we're still on schedule for our releases.

Lately I've been playing around with some new camera placement and scaling in SFM in hopes of giving an even better/realistic view in VR. This certainly wasn't my first attempt at a new take on scaling, but it was my first attempt at it with a different type of camera positioning. Due to SFM's limitations it's still not perfect; most artists scale their models to whatever works for them in SFM, and that can throw things off drastically once you start changing settings in the camera and element viewer for VR setup. Then there's the issue of models that just aren't normal looking. I spent half an hour testing a new scene I am working on only to realize that the male model the artist used just isn't naturally shaped. He's shaped like a Mr. Universe competitor but not realistically proportionate, so of course the scale isn't going to feel right. All I could do was scale the scene to the female model and reflect on how amazing VR truly is that we can experience what it's like to be in someone else's body, even if that body is superhuman and alien feeling. All that said, I am happy with how this turned out, and I'm glad to still be learning techniques and rules to make our SFM and Blender videos even better.

It feels good to be putting out weekly content with the studio. Our weekly releases are getting longer and better, and I'm working on camera techniques for our non-vr side of things. I'd hoped that we would get to a place where we would have studio releases that didn't take months and could be picked up as passion projects, and we're finally there. We'll still have the big studio releases for you to vote on, but it's nice to be putting out content that we can call our own and release often.
