Well I bought the Mac Studio... and this is what I learned...

- I'd rather have bought the Mac mini for £1000 less but it doesn't have enough ports - only 2 USB and 2 TB3

-you're paying for the ability for someone else to upgrade - most upgrades are only available at the point of sale so if you want to do something later... tough

- its almost 4x the speed of my Mac Pro 2012 and MacBook Pro 2016

- its not silent but quiet enough

- I'm glad I've got it but wish I had £1000 left in my account

- essentially I paid about £1000 for extra TB3 slots... insane!

- but it'll hopefully give me years of faithful service

My fingers are well and truly crossed!

I Bought a Mac Studio // Here's what you need to know

#apple #macstudio #review A review of my experience installing the Mac Studio. I take a look at the specs compared to the Mac mini and MacBook Pro M1 and MacBook Pro 2016. Noise has been flagged as a potential issue so I test the noise from the Mac Studio and compare to an external Hard Drive and my old Mac Pro 2012. I also compare the speed Mac Studio vs MacBook Pro vs MacBook 2016 vs Mac Pro 2012 (which is almost exactly the same speed as the 2016 MBP) Take homes... ► I'd rather have bought the Mac mini for £1000 less but it doesn't have enough ports - only 2 USB and 2 TB3 ► You're paying for the ability for someone else to upgrade - most upgrades are only available at the point of sale so if you want to do something later... tough ► Its almost 4x the speed of my Mac Pro 2012 and MacBook Pro 2016 ► Its not silent but quiet enough ► I'm glad I've got it but wish I had £1000 left in my account ► Essentially I paid about £1000 for extra TB3 slots... insane! ► Hopefully give me years of faithful service FINGERS CROSSED https://patreon.com/starskycarr Affiliate Links: Perfect Circuit https://www.pjtra.com/t/SENKTExLTUtDSEpJR0ZGQ0hJTUZHTA Thomann https://thmn.to/thocf/xpnsixr8gp Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/shop/starskycarr Other places you’ll find me: ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/starskycarr ► Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/starskycarr ► Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/starskycarr ► Bandcamp https://starskycarr.bandcamp.com/releases ► Clubbing TV From the Studio: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYIYEC4M53KQs4FeYpCY51sHxoK2l2Z0O 0:00 a crap rhyme 0:47 overview of my purchase decisions 4:29 system noise tests 7:26 speed test vs M1 MacBook Pro and 2016 MacBook Pro/2012 MacPro 9:35 ports and peripherals (hidden costs) 12:20 its very expensive so why buy a Mac 12:52 USB & MIDI connections 13:42 UAD Audio interface 14:24 Software 15:18 9 lessons learned - the conclusion

I've had three Macs so far. All of them off eBay: A 2012 Mac Mini 16GB (£500), a 2012 Macbook Pro 8GB (£450), and my current 2013 'trash can' Mac Pro 32GB (£1500). I just can't bring myself to pay the prices for a brand new Mac. I will probably look at a second hand one of these when the trash can is no longer able to be upgraded to the current OS.

Thanks for the insigtful video. I was on a verge of forking out money for Studio and this and some other videos really helped me not to rush into M1 like I used to with other Apple computers. i use Macks in my studio for 20 ish years almost, started with G3. Then I had G4 and G5 for long time, later got into Imac and Mackbook Pro. The Pro i am currently using is mid 2014. it was a monster back then, but it is time for an update. However, Instead of breaking the bank equal to two premium synths, I think that for 90% of the people using Macs for music production, higher tiers of M1 that drastically increase the price do not neccessarily make that much of a difference. And while I hope you will enjoy your Studio, extra ports and connections (and this has been a problem from Apple for a looong time, and keeps on growing) are, IMO not worth that much of a doe compared to Mini. I think I will go for Macbook Pro 16 with M1 Pro processor. Thst should be enough for all audio stuff (I eliminated bunch of hoarded plugins and basically use computer as a recorder, as of recently I dont even bother recording MIDI for hardware synths, just use it as if I would record on 16 channel Tascam) and some video editing.
