Interesting tidbit I recently learned on TikTok is the shirt Picard wears at the end of the episode was worn by Ensign Harry Kim (Garrett Wang) on Star Trek Voyager. He said they had a shirt that was worn in an episode of TNG and asked if he would wear it, at first he was hesitant but the moment they said it was worn as a dress casual long sleeved shirt by Sir Patrick Stewart as Picard he said he would without hesitation.

There's a blooper from this episode that when they see the Pritt guy high on the ridge and the two of them back up to the boulder Gates accidentally steps on Patrick's foot to which he exclaims, "Ow! My foot!"

If one of them farted and felt relief would the other also feel relief?

I recall seeing an interview clip (way back in the 90s) which claimed the reason the writers didn't put P&C together was because Roddenberry did not want main characters in his show to be involved in any LTRs. Even after Roddenberry died they wanted to "stay true" to his overall vision at least for TNG (not necessarily the later spinoff TV series, which he did not conceive of). Don't know whether this explanation is true or not (and not saying I agree with it), but might be why they chose to end the episode this way.

Star Trek Picard is... well, I think you'll be lost if you don't watch DS9, Voyager and all the films, to understand the plot of just S3 and characters from the other seasons. But it's not good. Even the apparently better Season 3 still has so much of what I don't like about new Star Trek. The world of new Star Trek loses the whole vibe of people being respectful towards each other so that everyone can be WAY too sassy and quippy to each others. Some of that kind of dialogue works in some franchises, but it's so weirdly out of place in Trek. Especially when it's not just a character trait of one or two characters, but that ALL characters talk in that character voice. A common defense for a lot of New Star Trek's changes are "Well, they had to update it for modern TV sensibilities." And my answer to that is; "Exactly, I can't stand a lot of modern TV anymore."

omg, if they had to use double toilets cause they can't separate.

I actually like the other plot. The question of whether only part of a planet can join the Federation is interesting.

As for Picard S3, or any season, they’ve written it so that you have to have watched Nemesis, DS9, and Voyager to truly understand it. As for movies, the TOS movies, especially Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock, and Voyage Home, which form a type of trilogy, are also good.

Two people on the run, with an open campfire burning all night and no one staying up keeping guard? Does the Federation teach survival skills?

Mark Ten

Kat's face said it all... but Paula, how do you really feel?

Mark Chrisco

Those guys were so paranoid, they probably felt Starfleet officers wouldn't be stupid enough to have a campfire, except as a trap and probably avoided the area in their search.

Mark Ten

And did you see how perfectly set up that campfire was? All the stones gathered and laid out in a perfect circle. Just the thing 2 defenseless fugitives would spend hours setting up. Couldnt have been sloppy writing?

DS9 and Star Trek: Picard are really worth the time invested. I got very little out of Voyager, but there's a handful of really, really good episodes. Loving Strange New Worlds and most of what I've seen in Discovery, even if it's not perfect. I love watching you go through TNG and DW! Would love to see you do DS9 (even if you do nothing else). And I think you'll find Picard worth the time. I did, anyway.

nail on the head regarding Picard. it's like, no, they *chose* to update it for "modern TV sensibilities", but they didn't *have* to. it's always so weird to me when people choose to change a unique thing to something else, rather than just make a new thing with the vision you want. let the unique thing stay unique.
