Comments

Mark Chrisco

Before this was broadcast, it was described by a production representative at a NYC convention as, "Riker swears revenge, when Picard is killed by mercenaries." The audience reaction consisted of derisive laughing and comments like "Yeah, sure." It was a really funny moment.

Bruce Bromley

It's always great seeing Richard Lynch on screen. He was so good at playing a villain. Also welcome to see Robin Curtis back in the Star Trek family.

It wasn't until this rewatch that I realized the actress (Robin Curtis) who portrays the Romulan in the episode played a Vulcan in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.

It’s a fun episode but between the seedy bar, leaning on the informant, the interpersonal conflict, the gunfight, and the scoundrels it almost feels more like an episode of DS9 than TNG

Brad Barter

The Vulcan she portrayed was Lieutenant Saavik in ST III and at the beginning of ST IV: The Voyage Home. She replaced late actress Kirstie Alley who play Lt. Saavik in ST II: The Wrath of Khan.

Brad Barter

I bought the VHS box set of Star Trek's greatest battles with an episode of each series at the time consisting of TOS Balance of Terror, DS9 The 2 part Way of the Warrior, a Voyager episode where Chakotay learns Seska is pregnant while after she joined the Kazon and TNG Gambit parts 1 & 2. In this case TOS & DS9 had the best episodes. They should've had for TNG The Best of Both Worlds 1 & 2 and if only they had waited until Scorpion 1 & 2 of Voyager would've made it a better set but it was produced in this VHS format while Voyager was in its 2nd season and Kazon were one of their main villains at that time (yuck, I can't stand the Kazon).

thereelnerd

That's right. It's funny I've seen this episode probably over a dozen times at this point and it just hit me on this most recent viewing who she was.

Brad Barter

Even though Vulcans and Romulans look and sound similar her long hair as Saavik as well as a ten year difference between ST III and Gambit her voice though similar is a bit deeper now most likely from aging and trying to differentiate between the 2 characters.

Brian Hakala

This is an underrated two parter! It was an interesting angle to see how Data faired as captain.

Joshua Frydenlund

Maybe watch “Voyager”, on your own…

It's bittersweat that we are in the last season of TNG. I very much enjoyed your reactions. I had hoped that you would continue with Voyager or Deep Space Nine after. The movies Insurrection and Nemesis are sadly the TNG movies I liked the least so it will be goodbye for me after the series. Luckily there are still a lot of episodes until then. I'm especially looking forward to Katrina's reaction to the finale.

Keith Goodnight

If I recall correctly, this episode was written as a season finale cliffhanger— I don't recall if it was meant as the season 6 cliffhanger and was replaced by the Lore/Borg episode, or if it was going to be the season 7 cliffhanger before they decided to end the series. Whichever it was, after it was bumped from its season-ender place they decided to go ahead and use the story during the season rather than letting it go to waste.

Nolan

I think you misunderstand, Insurrection and Nemesis are NOT the two movies they are watching.

Eric

I know it gets some hate from other Trekkies, but damn is it a fun watch!

Joe Concepts

I always liked this one. A fun, solid episode. And we get more good bits with Captain Data in Part 2. Including a scene that often pops up as a Youtube clip. :)

Ben Chan

That informant guy the crew picks up at the bar just reminds me of the "burned to death guy" from "Beetlejuice."

I watched that part again at 01:29. Paula says "I'm excited for us to watch the two specific movies I'm planning on showing Katrina." and "Who can then decide on their own if they'd like to watch Nemesis and Insurrection." You are right, I misunderstood before. That's great!

Adam Brown

Galen was the name of Picard's Archeology Professor at Starfleet Academy.

Henry Fuller

Both of those Galens are a nod to the prof Galen from the planet of the apes tv show from the 70s
