I'm sorry, but Yaz is a police officer (granted UK, but preparation and all) and yet she didn't at least TAKE one of the alien weapons with her when she used the teleporter?!? I don't expect her to use it, but at least as a deterrent, you know? As for the public's criticism of this series... The episodes are slower in general, and while Doctor Who has always been progressive and political, it wasn't as direct in nearly back-to-back episodes. However, for me, while the episodes are slower than I prefer, and I think two companions is a better formula for writing rather than three; I have no qualms overall aside from the Timeless Child arc. Though I LOVE the Ruth Doctor!!!

My day is instantly so much better now! Love this episode! The main thing for me, on top of Yaz, the fam, and 13 being awesome, is the parallels you can draw to Yaz and the Doctor with the couple in the episode. Said it before but I really love this era and the way it works.

Lots of shows seem to need to end on a happy note and ignore the drama/trauma that went on moments (or 1 commercial break) before. Classic Trek did that a lot with the command crew joking after a story with multiple deaths, horrific events, etc. Always somewhat offputting.

It’s a real pleasure to see you two thoroughly enjoying this era of DW. It’s a welcome change from the trolling and hate-watching that seems to be prevalent for many shows at the moment. While I accept there will be differences of opinion, I grow tired of the extremities some throw around in relation to Jodi and Chibnals era. This episode felt particularly prescient when it came out, dealing with a deadly pathogen just as we were all going into lockdown in the first year of the COVID pandemic. So looking forward to the remainder of the series with you two.

Red Claw

This episode has a similar message than Orphan 55, but I feel this episode works so much better. Interesting characters and lots of stuff to do for everyone. This episode succeeded where Orphan 55 failed for me. It's a good one I think.

First time through this episode I was all "Wait! What?" I couldn't follow it at all. This time it all seemed to make a lot more sense. I think all Chibnall episodes need multiple viewings.

Even as a big fan of this era, it does become so much more rewarding on repeat viewings. There are subtle themes, parallels, and character moments you don't notice on first watch. Every time I rewatch I notice something new. Some new connective tissue for it.

One thing about the ratings on places like IMDb is that this era really has been a target for review bombing by, a lot of the time, people who don't even watch the show. So you almost need exclude all the 1/10s to get a real picture.
