I love pretty much everything about this era, and this episode is no different. The historical aspect is wonderful and seeing 13 geek out and bond with Tesla, along with their parallels, is a highlight for me. The Skithra queen, both by design and presence, I always found to be a fun and terrifying villain. Really looking forward to next week! It's always so fun to re-experience these with you both.

Paula, somewhere along the line you stopped being a Noob and became a Fangirl. I knew it for sure when Graham mispronounced Silurian and saw the look on your face. Edison was a scientific entrepreneur, what he really invented was the research laboratory. Most of his patents were really about improvements to other people's work. His patent claims were often fought in court so he had a habit of buying up earlier patents, hiring the original inventors, etc. to give him control. Its impossible to say what he invented vs what his lab came up with because everything was in his name. Ahhh, Capitalism!

Bill

Edison was ye olden thyme Elon Musk, except he did actually design, invent, and engineer things as well as stealing.

Scribbles

Yeah, basically Edison was an inventor of an insidious kind of fraud that has effected what people know about scientific inventions for almost a century (or over a century, I forget.) It's really a shame.

Funny That

A great Doctor episode that would only work for this Doctor, with just enough time to make the history engaging and debatable, and a proper auld villain. Going by the up-tick I'm experiencing on the re-watch things should be good to great here out for the rest of the series. :^)

Scribbles

Ah, Edison, the old fraud. "England, now that's a country that never understood business." Really, Thomas? Ever heard of the East India Company? Damn thing was so evilly successful that it was practically its own country with its own army and navy. I'm pretty sure they understood business just fine, especially the sleazy parts you were good at.

Funny That

True enough dude, solid delivery on business and "persuasion". Innovation on the other hand... If you had a pound for every time an invention happened first in the UK and took off elsewhere, you'd not have a million pounds, but you'd have enough for a damn good night out.

Sufyaan Kazi

Really good episode, great dialogue moments and blend of history with sci fi. Also, it was great to see Goran Visnjic again, I hadn't seen him since ER, he played such a great role which meant a lot to him as fellow Croat I believe.

Red Claw

And after the one episode of Chibnalls era I dislike, we straight up come to my favorite episode. I love Nikola Tesla. In history as well as this episode. He was so far ahead of his time and his heart was in the right place. To bad most of humankind is very egotistical. And another part I loved about this episode was the use of Thomas Edison. It would have been so easy to make him the Antagonist/Bad Guy of this episode, but he wasn't. He was a jerk and very unpleasant, but they also showed his human side. The moment when his workers have died he was genuinely upset. Not because he had lost a source of income, but because he knew them and their families. Despite everything he cared for the people working for him. And the Doctor and Teslas interactions were just so perfect and the best thing. I cherished every scene they were in together.

Nicole Mazza

Which is interesting, as Elon Musk was one of the biggest donators (1 million dollars) in the fund to try to rebuild/restore Wardenclyffe and make it into a Tesla museum and Science Center (The Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe).

Lloyd B

Great episode, wonderfully done. By the way, the Scorpion Queen was played by Anjou Mohindra, who, in addition to being one of Sarah Jane’s young companions in The Sarah Jane Adventures (shameless plug for you to watch that series😉), is also the partner of Sacha Dhawan. Bradley Walsh also worked with Anjil on SJA and knows her well, but completely failed to recognize her on the set of this episode, as she was already in full scorpion gear when he came on set.

You should watch Timeless. He's not one of the "main" cast but in season 2 I think he's in most episodes. I always enjoy watching him in anything.

Many people didnt like the episode, i think it was one of the best of Chibnals run. Tesla made perfect sense, because he claimed all his life, that he was in contact with aliens. Also it brings him closer to our time, to show people what a genius he was. I mean the fact that he had the idea for a wireless system 70years before anyone ese, just wow

tal goren

It's funny, Tesla was actually right to show skepticism when the Doctor claimed the gun was alien. the Silurians are totally from earth. anyway... ACTIVE SHOOTER DRILLS?!! Americans actually have those?!! this is crazy....

Not only do Americans have active shooter drills, most active shooter drills take place in schools. For example: during the Jan 6 Insurrection, a lot of Senators and Representatives had no idea how to react to armed intruders in the building. Their younger aides and interns, however, had been in school since Columbine and grew up with active shooter drills a lot. They knew exactly what to do: turn out the lights, close and barricade the doors, etc.

This was a period of wild west inventing. Copyrights, patent laws, etc. were ignored or manipulated. Govt oversight was corrupt.. Sounds familiar...
