I love this episode and I know there's some discourse around it; completely understand others views, but I've always felt that the Master allying himself with Nazis to hurt people is what I latched onto. As a POC I've felt on edge with the discourse around this episode. I'd be furious if he wasn't knowingly joining them to kill but he did so I don't. I'm not mad at the Doctor. Won't detract from overall episode enjoyment either.

Ada Gordon = Ada Lovelace (Gordon is Byron's last name). 😉

Watching you guys "dance" around at the beginning of this makes me wonder if you've ever seen or heard DoctorIn' the Tardis by The Timelords? https://youtu.be/DsAVx0u9Cw4

SO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT THIS STORY (and sadly, many not that good): Starting with the positive: [up on the Eiffel Towel] DOCTOR: It's cold up here! It's worse than Jodrell Bank. MASTER: Did I ever apologise for that? DOCTOR: No. MASTER: Good. I did love that callback for us Classic series fans. In fact, on the the plus side, there’s quite a few Classic-era goodies in this one. Which is definitely one of the few things I like about the story: Jodrell Bank reference, 'Contact' being brought back, more use of the Tissue Compression Eliminator, etc. But that’s where things mostly fall apart for me. 🙁 For example, as much as I love the inclusion of great women of history like Ada Lovelace -- considered one of the first computer programmers and a total genius (and daughter to the super-awesome Lord Byron, of course!) -- and Noor Inayat Khan -- an awesome female Muslim spy for the Brits in WW2 – (and honestly thought they made BETTER companions than Yaz, Ryan, or Graham ever have), I hate that Chibnall continuously sidelines his companions leaving us to get more character development from one-off characters than the ones we see in every story. 🙄 But that’s not the worst of it. The part where the Doctor deactivates the Master's perception filter, throwing him to the Nazis as a POC, using his race against him as a weapon…WOW, that is seriously one of the most disgusting and horrifying things I've ever seen the Doctor do. Yeah, definitely NOT my Doctor. Sorry. 🤬🤬 And speaking of Doctor fails: It’s been so long since I’d watched this that I’d almost blocked out the horrific AND VERY UNNECESSARY mind-wipes at the end of the story! I mean, god, where to start with that? Let's start with Noor. One of the most tragic things for Noor – in Real Life and in the case of this mind wipe -- was that she died horribly just a few short years after this, shot by the Nazi's after her cover had been broken and she'd been captured and imprisoned for about a year by them, partially even at Dachau. Which, by the way, as hinted at on Instagram by Aurora Marion, the actress who played Noor in the episode, apparently a scene showing her actually being executed by the Nazis WAS ACTUALLY FILMED BUT THEN CUT FROM THE EPISODE! I mean, you've GOT to be kidding me, Chibnall. Wow. As if a lot of the stuff with her in the story wasn't problematic enough! I just don't even know what to say to that… ANYWAY, as I said, Noor was going to die not very long after her encounter with the Doctor anyway and so I'm not sure how, from the Doctor's point of view, her remembering things would've even been ANY sort of problem then? I mean, I'm sure the Doctor knew she didn't have long to live, as she knew many details about her life! Plus, it's also not like she's not let many other people go on with their memories intact after experiencing even more in other adventures! YEAH, IT JUST MAKES ZERO SENSE TO ME. And with Ada – god, she was STRAIGHT UP BEGGING HER NOT TO when she wiped her mind. I mean, with Noor it was sort of a 'sneak-attack' and so she didn't even know what was coming, but with Ada, IT WAS POSSIBLY EVEN MORE HORRIFYING TO WATCH BECAUSE OF HER PLEADING WITH THE DOCTOR TO LEAVE HER MEMORIES AS IS. I mean, come on Doctor, you already learned this lesson both with Clara and Bill NOT THAT LONG AGO. Like, I think the freaking Twelfth Doctor might need a word with you! It was already bad enough when it happened at the Doctor's hands with Donna back in the day, BUT NOW SHE'S DOING IT YET AGAIN? Sadly, the Doctor's never been super-good with consent in such situations, to be fair, but again, I truly thought the DOCTOR KNEW BETTER BY NOW. I mean, maybe Chibnall thought it was 'better' because the Doctor was being more tender and gentler this time around or something? BUT NO, CHIBNALL, THIS STILL ISN'T SOMETHING THE DOCTOR SHOULD BE DOING. EVER EVER. NO MATTER HOW GENTLE. 😡

Ben

I agree that The Doctor didn't need to wipe Noor's mind because, as far as I could tell, she didn't find out anything history changing. But with Ada, she literally found stuff out that she wasn't supposed to know yet which could have drastically changed her own history and Earth's so The Doctor had no choice but to wipe her memories.

I was originally against the idea that Sasha Master came before Missy Master, but the more I watch this, the more it seems doable. This is brilliant stuff that gets better each time thru.

Nicole Mazza

I get it, but the Doctor doesn't wipe many people's memories in the same position that have been on an adventure with them. It happens all the time in the show. I just don't like the inconsistency. 🤷‍♀️ Also, again, the Doctor just recently learned as Twelve how terrible mind wipes are for people (both for themself -- losing the memory of Clara -- and when Bill called them out for trying in on her). There just should've been another way. Or at least a talk where the Doctor got consent after explaining the dangers or something.

Mark Ten

Noor Kahn of course was a real person. The eps omits that she was eventually captured and executed in a concentration camp.

Mark Ten

IDK, Gallifry falls again. Having your world and all its people go extinct once is a tragedy, but twice? After all that effort to save it... thats just carelessness.

Mark Ten

If the Doctor knew so much about her, she would have known that Noor would die the following year.

Bill

Fun fact about CCTV, the US isn't as unobserved as you might think. 15.28 CCTV cameras per 100 people. (https://www.precisesecurity.com/articles/top-10-countries-by-number-of-cctv-cameras)

Sufyaan Kazi

I love the "strings" theme they gave Sachas' Master in this series 👍🏼

Bill

Season 11 was the wind up... Spyfall is the pitch... Timeless Child is the giant wet noodle of disappointment that sat in the garbage for a week before we were served it.

Sufyaan Kazi

Loved this episode, so much depth to Jodies' Doctor, great history stuff too, and some nice silly bits with companions. The dynamic with Jodie and Sacha was great. It's the Jodie Doctor I wish we had seen in the previous season.

Bill

100% on side objecting to The Doctor throwing a PoC to the Nazi's. Like... No. But sadly, not the least "Doctor" thing we'll see this series.

Nicole Mazza

Yeah, I hated it when RTD did it and I hated it here too. Lazy writing. :/

FalcorDragon

I actually enjoyed the timeless child storyline, that being said, I totally get why others didn't... I just enjoy canon evolving and changing so things don't get stale. It's nice to sometimes just shake the world to isn't foundations :)

The guy who played Charles Babbage (Mark Dexter) also played the Dad of the young computer girl in Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead from season 4.

Firefly24601

I think the difference is that in the US, it's a hodge-podge of private cameras, none of them hooked up to a semi-centralized watching center. It's people watching their own building or property, and none of them are organizationally connected. When the police need CCTV footage, they usually have to ask for volunteers.

thanks for clearing that up with such a detailed explanation.

It was confirmed by the producers when Big Finish were producing their Master 50th anniversary audio drama with John Simm and all the current Masters and they needed to know whether Sasha Dhawan was pre-Missy.

Martyn Hill

Agreed, this was the point when I started to struggle with this era of the show
