Paula is spot on about the end with the sudden appearance of the missing sister. It would have been much better if there'd been some more background on that storyline, and if they'd shot the final scene differently. That said, the kids and the Doctor's interaction with them (especially Meave) really make this episode. I always find Capaldi's Doctor really charming when he's talking with kids, like that scene in Listen with the young Rupert Pink. Not an episode I would normally rewatch, but I love your reactions, and Paula always has something insightful to say, bringing out more in the show than most other reactors. Can't wait for next week, though!

FWIW - I am British and when I went to school in the late 70s/early 80s we were specifically taught to write x's that way for maths to distinguish between x as a variable you're trying to find the value to and x the multiplication symbol. I don't know if they still do that or not.

Not one of my favourite episodes but I do like the Danny-Clara stuff. This was actually the episode where I gave up watching when it was airing live. Not out of disgust or hate but just because it didn't really grab me. I always meant to catch up but just got further behind. Only caught up in the last couple of years. If only I'd known, because it is about to get so good. If Paula is not completely in love with Michelle Gomez after the next two episodes... well then I don't know anything about anything.

An another interesting discussion at the end!! I appreciate Katrina's perspective; I always thought she hated Danny but now it seems more like the relationship itself is the problem and the repeated theme of lying. In fairness it is a complicated issue... I always felt that the depiction of a couple here is less romantic than Amy and Rory, which I disliked! After all they squabbled a lot but it was always resolved by the end of the episode and Rory's insecurity that Amy loved the Doctor more than him came up again and again! But I like what Katrina said about 'living my truth', I just don't know if anyone can live up to that... We all want different things and have different perspectives, so nobody aligns completely. It has to be said with Season 8 though that Moffat really explores these themes. The Doctor and Clara come full circle here; its a reversal of 'Kill the Moon' and they both understand each other better. Even the Doctor has been humbled! He breaths our air after all!! I love this finale; can't wait to see you reaction!

Paula breaking out the Billy Joel and Pink Floyd references!

Not a great episode, but once again it proved to 12 that he doesn't pay Clara enough 👍🏼 p.s. I think Segun is great, but I do miss Murray Gold 😭

This ep was pretty much my breaking point when it comes to Danny. It was pretty clear that his whining at the Doctor that he's an "officer" was projecting. Clara is a grown-ass woman, and Danny decides to order her to go correct homework like he thinks she's a child. He was such a cute character in the beginning, adorably awkward and all that...and then he turned into...this.

I liked this better than the last time I saw it. Yes, it's a fairy tale, but it hangs together better than Eat the Moon. Clara/Danny is still a deeply flawed relationship but I have more respect for Mr. Pink this time around. Yes the last scene is too abrupt. I guess the writer is just depending on the audience to fill in the details.

Yup, just a simple I heard your message at the end of your call, I thought no one missed me... and running up and a hug would have been plenty :)

I’m pretty sure that’s the universal symbol for x as a variable in mathematics/algebra.

We still used it for those reasons when I was in school a few years back so I imagine they still do, in the UK at least

I like this one! Sure, the final scene is a bit off, but the rest of the story is beautiful sci-fi and funny

The absolute worst episode of New Who. Kids shouldn't take their medication, wtf? Bad message. Also, no one of our characters influence the end result what so ever. Ugh.

I agree with the projection thing and it is my biggest problem with Danny, but I didn't feel he was condescending toward Clara. he just caught her in a huge lie, he had the right to act like he had the moral high ground here.

It isn't the worst plot wise, but you are right, the anti-medication massage probably caused quite a few problems to parents of kids who watched the show.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHUo7St0wz0 The link is to a 2K upscaled trailer from Series 1 with Christopher Eccleston. I know its not relevant... but it is awesome to see the 9th Doctor in HD selling the premise of the new show. For 2005 the trailers were timeless and so engaging!! Fans of the show should show this to newcomers.

I wouldn't say the message of the episode is anti medication. The context of the episode is more about her being falsely medicated and the adults/people around her not listening to her in order to find out whats is actually wrong. Medication is important but getting the diagnosis right and listening to the patient is even more so.

2022-12-30 21:41:15 I terms of Clara's lying, I kind of see it as something that she has learnt from being around the doctor for so long (plus the general sort of lying around who the doctor is that all companions did). Not that she didn't lie before, but that she sees the doctor lie all the time & she has started to take on aspects of the doctor (rule one the doctor lies) along the journey which has caused her to lie more the more we go along with her. It has almost become second nature to lie. Not to excuse her behaviour, because it is not ok that she has lied to Danny all this time, but I think it is less about how she relates to Danny and more how she relates to the Doctor. While I never liked the lying, it also never made me dislike Clara (personally never understood the massive hate she received from the famdom). But yeah, that is just my take on it.
