Pate

I did it ! I found the earliest trek video that works for patreon

Dan Williams

I was at a Renaissance festival doing a pirate battle scene for the guests, there was a father and very young son also in it. So as the kid uses the toy gun at his dad and the dad pretends to die, the kid starts crying "No dad! It's a pretend gun!" The dad jumped up and hugged his son, but the pure terror on the boys face and in his voice.... I hope he was young enough to forget it, but I never will. (I failed to pull a punch and clocked a guy with my pewter tankard...)

Dr. Crusher was great with the kid, but remember in Pen Pals, Dr. Pulaski was great with the scared alien girl. And with Data in that episode also.

Now I want them to watch Masks. It'll be a while till we get there though...

I don't think Lore had an emotion chip already. He was just unstable because of his programming. Dr Soong mentioned in the episode that there was no difference between Data and Lore apart from a little programming. I think it was that unstableness that makes Lore experience emotions but they were not designed to be there giving Lore an unstable personality. Off course Lore does now have an emotion chip which was meant to interact with Data's programming so Lore will now be even more unstable.

Yeah, I may be wrong, but that's how I always took it, too.

Now, to be fair, the kid wasn't pranking his brother for laughs or a joke, but to get back at him for the brother making fun of him. Granted, he still shouldn't have done it, but it was less of a "Haha, you thought I was DEAD." and more of a "Oh yeah, you think it's funny to mock me? We'll see how much you're laughing when you think I'm gone. Won't be so funny then, will it?" And then it all went terrible. Probably just some stupid kid logic where he thought his brother would appreciate him more if the poor kid thought he was gone. It's a nice Trek staple of Everybody's wrong. But also a little right, now how to fix it?

Jon Medders

Is there any way to go back and watch your reactions from the beginning?

David Brown

The episode of Quantum Leap won for the same kind of thing. To make Scott Bakula look older to play Sam's father.

Time Lord

Season 1 of Star Trek: TNG is on Fan Theory's channel. Unfortunately when we left Fan Theory to create our own channel we were not given permission to bring our past episodes with us. As much as we would like to share those seasons with you here on this channel we are unable to do so!

Jon Medders

yeah i looked into it, the videos are all blocked on youtube and they just link to their pateron. and it looks like the only way to get access is with their $15 tier.

JXTN

This feels like a stupid idea before I type it, but might as well say it, but could you buy the "license" to those videos or whatever? And do they have the "rights" to just the actual videos or to the uncuts as well? Because if you still have the footage of you guys without the episode footage, that's enough by itself.

Bruce Bromley

Finally getting to see the full reaction after the usual beginning of the moth Patreon payment lag. This is only the second time since the pilot that Data has shown his ability to mimic. Brent Spiner is an excellent mimic himself. He does a spot on impression of Patrick Stewart.

Monty Magpie

It's a good job Doctor Noonian Soong didn't activate Data's homing device during The Borg incident. Earth would have been assimilated because of an emotion chip.

This episode sets up Data’s arc even more. I just wish the writers remembered a few things. Like a huge item is : Data had a daughter Lal for almost a MONTH! That really should have been discussed. That whole scene about being like Soong would be more poetic that Data IS like his father because he WAS a father. Just a missed opportunity to go back to one of the most important times in Data’s life that is overlooked later as well. Great episode again!

Firefly24601

Dr Soong: Except for a bit of programming [software] you're both identical! Also Dr Soong: Noooo that chip is for Data, it won't work for you!!

Matthew Zeidman

I appreciate the new Vimeo interface; the old interface didn’t let you leave portrait mode while on a smartphone. Regarding the episode, I didn’t realize the Pakleds were the ones who reassembled Lore. +1 to Paula for what I believe was a Thomas Dolby reference. +5 to Katrina for her reaction to Lore pulling back his thumbnail.

Naturally, we want you to react to DS9, Voy, and ENT at some point. But if you're looking for other options, Stargate SG-1 has a very similar approach. And if you like exploring unique concepts, there's a show from the 90s called "Sliders". It's inter-dimensional travel with a lot of what if scenarios, philosophy, etc...But what the real question is, is it better to have loved and lost, than to never have had loved at all?
