Watching in Firefox rather than ms edge, working fine

Such a powerful episode for such a simple premise. Did you notice when old Amy fell at the end she landed in the pose of The Hanged Man tarot card? If you're unfamiliar with it, it symbolizes "ultimate surrender, sacrifice, or being suspended in time." I'm glad Paula's really getting the sense of how emotionally different the different Doctors are. It matters.

Great episode tearing at everyone’s emotions

Has the download feature been disabled again? It's been back and forth. I have been able to do it the last few weeks on all the shows, but not today.

I love this episode. I think Katrina is so right about the Doctor's whimsical/darkness thing. The moment at the end where Rory, who's just had to make this terrible decision, asks him whether he always knew he couldn't save both. And the reply? The Doctor, a) dodges the question and b) says, "I said I'd save her and I did" and gives this smug little smile. And just for that moment, I want Rory to punch him. The thing is, that little smile it's the same whimsy that he's always got on the surface, and usually I love it, it's funny and charming and makes you like him. But this gives you a window to something darker that the whimsy is covering for. But love the episode. Cry every time.

GG I had a feeling that the last two weeks that I was to download the videos may have been an anomaly. Sadness 😭

John

These are the moments that drive home how the Doctor has a youthful boyish face and attitude on the surface, but through the cracks you see the broken, lost, ancient Time Lord.

Travis Starnes

This is one of the saddest episodes since Girl in the Fireplace, for me. It's not sad like the loss of Rose or the regeneration of 10, which were emotional but not heartbreaking beyond what it meant for the show. It gets me every single time and I always leave it feeling sad and thinking about loss.

Amy Chlebus

I know I'm always the different one, but night terrors and the girl who waited are 2 episodes I always skip, when I watch them on DVD. I don't know why, but I've never liked them. Yes IM and emocional and caring person. I'm just not into these episodes, but I absolutely love the rest of Series 6 though.

I think Paula is going to end up really liking Clara. We will see.

Great episode! We have a smaller cast list I believe though...?

Edging closer to Day of the Doctor

The first time I watched New Who from beginning to end was during series 7. This was my favorite episode in my first watch through.

I think Rory’s “You’re turning me into you!” just might be the most bitterly personal thing a companion has said to the Doctor since Tegan left Five, telling him she was tired of all the death and destruction that surrounds him. (That leave taking cemented Tegan in my Top Five companions of all time, alongside Sarah Jane, Ace, Donna, and Amy/Rory as a couple.)

Darren Withers

Come on man, Paula’s not there yet! I know it’s only one line, but really? Spoilers!

Doug C

Great breakdown at the end, thanks for the great show as always!

Darren Withers

Just pointing out, she did know they were coming for her, and even had an eta because she’d seen them leave with the previous Amy. That said, it’s still kind of brutal, the way she was left alone for 36 years, not to mention seeing how bitter those 36 years were going to make her. At least Rory had the opportunity to interact with other people on occasion and knew the world was going on around him, (we know he issued warnings to outsiders not to open the Pandorica before it’s time) though he likely lived a very solitary life for those years. I’m with Travis in finding this one of the most heartbreaking episodes since “The Girl in the Fireplace”.

Steven morgan

The major difference between Rory and Amy waiting is Rory was given the choice Amy wasn’t, loved watching this again, never noticed the first time around how different her voice is. I’m really interested to when we get to the era kats not big into, I never had a problem with any of the eras but I think I kind of overly accepting of things. But that being said I don’t tend to look back on things much unless I really loved things

Opti_Frog

David, why this comment here and now? Let Paula discover these things in her own time!

I really like this episode. In my personal life, my wife is older than I am. The portrayal that Karen Gillan gave as the older Amy, especially when the younger Amy was brought back to their timestream, was fantastic. The way that she played the subtle (or not so subtle) insecurity as the older Amy really struck me. Aside from the stark, hard choices that Rory was forced to make, I feel that they did very well in touching on a lot of complicated emotions in this episode, imo. Great stuff, another great reaction.

Sorry about the earlier spoilery comment - for some reason I was under the impression that Paula wouldn't be reading these comments. Won't happen again.

I love how before something intense character wise happens Kat always does this little exhale. You can see the emotional scaring Doctor Who has left. Really enjoyed your post-Doctor analysis think you both hit the nail on head. Matt is evasive and more of a trickster and his Doctor (as they all do) has some fantastically dark moments. He's a fallible hero, sometimes an anti-hero and I love those moments where he lets loose. Water of Mars is my favourite Ten episode, which I think says a lot about how I like my Doctors! Beautiful episode and beautiful reaction.

John

I think a big part of why the Doctor travels with companions is he wants to reclaim a youthful innocence he long ago lost. It's not about just seeing the universe through new eyes - it's about living a life without so many emotional scars.
