As TNG spoiler free as I can be, so names have been changed to protect the innocent. I’m curious about which specific TNG episode(s) Paula was connecting with this one. I came up with three possibilities, and despite being for different reasons they have a common antagonistic group featured. My first instinct was Two Places’ Good Bits, but then maybe it could be Geordie Makes A Colourful Friend (I’m quite proud of that play on words, by the way) or possibly the follow up Downwards.

2 paulas and katrinas, we would just be too darn lucky!

"Doctor, last time you stuck your hand in something Rory DIED!" Glad to see we're still not over it! :) The actress who plays Jennifer doesn't remind me of Jodie Whittaker so much as Emily Watson. Or possibly Emily Mortimer.

Lol, Paula's look to camera when Cleaves says "Don't worry, the gangers return to flesh when disconnected." Classic!

O.k so last year I was trying to think of different shows that had actors from doctor who in together, I thought of broadchurch as it’s the obvious. Then I thought of a peter Davison show called at home with the Braithwaites which I was convinced starred jodie Whitaker as his daughter, when I looked it up I found out it starred ......Sarah smart. So the fact you girls thought you recognised Sarah, the same way I thought I recognised jodie is hilarious

Paula: "What are we going to do with TWO Doctors??" River: That's a whole OTHER birthday... Jack: I can't tell you what I'm thinking right now....

I first saw Sarah Smart in "At Home With The Braithwaites". The actor that played her father just happened to be in Doctor Who as the Fifth Doctor.

Good point. As soon as I saw your comment I realised that your pick probably fits a lot better, especially with Paula’s comment about it being something from much further down the road. The weird part is now I’m not even sure why I was thinking of the ones I was thinking of. I mean they’re cool episodes and I can’t wait to see the Gals react to them. Must have just had some particular element of this episode front of mind and got me stuck on that tangent rather than the episode over all.

There is a pair of shows based on Phillip Pullman's, Sally Lockhart novels called The ruby in the smoke and The. Shadow in the north. Billie Piper played the protagonist Sally and in an early tv role Matt Smith played Jim Taylor. The BBC aired the shows in the UK and I believe PBS aired them in the states

Funnily enough, the closest comparisons I can think of come from all the way back in season 1 of TNG. Both involve Data, and each one depends on your outlook at this midway point in the two-parter (assuming for the sake of argument that the second part hasn't yet been watched). If you think the ganger we saw at the very end of 'The Rebel Flesh' is going to be good and helpful, then you could draw a comparison to the very end of the TNG episode 'We'll Always Have Paris' where a time distortion (or whatever it was) splits Data into three of himself and he has to briefly consult with himself in order to accomplish his mission. But if you think the ganger is going to be evil, then you could draw a comparison to 'Datalore'.

There is a David Brin book called "Kiln People". where people constantly use a technology very similar to the one in this episode, except the double are purposely independent, they know the are not real and they only last for 24 hours. at the end of their existence, their memories can be downloaded back to the real person. people basically use that technology just like you two wanted to use your doubles, to improve there work load, the real person stay at home and have fun, while the double go to work/school.

You caught most of the references the Doppledoctor threw out, but you missed one of the most famous classic Who quotes - he began with the speech William Hartnel gave when leaving his granddaughter. It wasn't the exact wording, but the whole "one day I shall return" speech was basically the fanbase's rallying cry during the time between 7 and 9.
