Poor, poor Rory. He's always treated like crap.

great fun episode, smiles from the gals.

Patrick Pieciun

Great episode! Can't wait for next week. One of my faves in series 5

John

One of my favorite things about Rory is how he's able to just go with a situation. Seeing the TARDIS didn't really phase him. The quip about getting married in 430 years. He finds himself in ridiculous situations and just sort of shrugs it off and rolls with it. That's his super power. He just goes with the flow.

Jeff Seely

This is one of my least favorite episodes from this season. That doesn't mean I think it's bad. It just isn't very memorable. But I'm really looking forward to the rest of the season. Anyway, it's great to see that Amy wants to include Rory in her adventures with the Doctor. That seems to be a positive sign for their relationship. Mickey was such an awful character for a while. He improved later on, but I never warmed to him. Rory is definitely not Mickey. As for the Doctor... I agree that he's pretty different from what we've had before. He has a wacky, hyperactive side that's a lot of fun, but you definitely don't want to cross him.

When the Doctor is on the tower, Paula makes the same face my sister always made whenever the Doc was trying to reconnect the wires in Back to the Future. lol. One of the things I love about Matt Smiths doctors is how much he cares even about the monsters.

Travis Starnes

I loved Paula's reaction when she predicted the Doctor saying he kissed Amy after he jumps out of the cake. Hysterical.

Opti_Frog

Helen McCrory also played Narcissa Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies.

3 episodes until things get intense for the newbs, and again for the fans. Yes, for both shows. Also, find it somewhat ironic that an episode dealing with ‘Vampires’ and thus reflections has the two of you the wrong way round during the reaction.

John

Rory's the guy. The Doctor's the guy Amy tells him not to worry about. When the Doctor shouted at Amy to go back to the TARDIS, I took that not as much him being in control as him listening to Rory's concerns about putting Amy in danger. I felt like he was being a bit extra harsh to upset her a little bit to distance himself some from her out of respect for her and Rory's relationship. If you watch the look on her face and how Rory said "thank you" I felt like there was an unspoken meeting of the minds between the Doctor and Rory in that moment.

John

When talking about episodes coming up - don't. At all. Just don't.

this is possibly my least favourite episode of the season sadly but love your reaction to it, the OFSTED reference refers to the UK government's office for education standards, and schools face inspections every so often to see how well schools are run and how they're coping also, anyone got a straw lol

Steven morgan

I loved Rory from this episode he kind of reminded me of classic companion Harry Sullivan with his clutziness, it’s funny watching this one again as he isn’t fully formed here, I think the reason why Matt smiths character has that little bit more I’m in charge thing is because he had spleen on his lone for so long and nephew doesn’t want to be again so I feel he needs to be in control a little bit more

Steven morgan

Been not spleen and no idea what nephew should be 😂😂😂😂

Amy Chlebus

Yes please don't talk about upcoming episodes. We don't want to have spoilers.

Thank you for posting this episode today. I've had a really bad week, and this really helped bring some joy to me today.

I feel that Matt Smith's Doctor at his core (a part of the change that happened when he regenerated) is just so much younger and yet so much older all at once. In that he is younger, with all his goofy traits, as a sort of coping mechanism to deal with the pain that he's stacked up till now (including all the heartache he went through at the end of David Tennant's run. And yet he feels older; not necessarily in an older-but-wiser sense but almost in an old and getting a little tired sense. Thus, maybe his patience for irreverence is just a little thinner than it used to be. I don't know. That's jmo.

Steven Cooper

On the whole, this story isn't as good as the previous two-parter, and has to really rush things to fit its plot into 45 minutes. Hence the Doctor's convenient immediate befriending of Guido who can tell him all about the Calvierri school, and who conveniently has a map showing a secret underground way into it. (By the way -- an underground passage, in Venice? Wouldn't that be rather damp?) Not to mention his convenient stash of gunpowder that provides a way to easily dispose of all the vampire girls as soon as they've become superfluous to the story, after which the Doctor finds a convenient "story off" switch to flick which immediately solves all the problems... The attempt to "scientifically" explain the aliens' vampire-like abilities is cute, but I couldn't buy the Doctor being unable to see the reflections because they're too bizarre or horrific -- there's probably no one in the universe less likely to be fazed by a creature's strange appearance. On the other hand, the Doctor/Amy/Rory interaction works really well (especially Rory); by the end all three are in a better place than they were at the start, which makes for a really good Doctor/companions setup as the season continues.

Finally home from work. Got some dinner and wine and ready to get wibbly wobbly.

Jeff Seely

I have to agree with John and Amy. You're being way too specific by telling them how they're likely going to feel exactly so many episodes from now. I understand excitement for what's coming up, but you have to allow them to go into this stuff as blind as possible.

John

I feel like Matt Smith's Doctor is going through a bit of a mid-life crisis.

Time Lord

We are so happy to be here for you and bring a little light into your day. Sending you lots of good and healing vibes. Feel better! - Kat

Amy Chlebus

I think nephew is supposed to be definitely Stephen. Lol I'm always messing up with the autocorrect! Welcome to my world! 😁😁

Firefly24601

Not my favorite episode, but it's ok. I love Paula's headband though!!

ShadowChao

Excited for next week, one of my favorites!

Rory joining is for me, the turning point of this season. While I liked Matt Smith and the episodes previous (especially Flesh and Stone) Rory provides something to the dynamic that was missing previously. Also, the reaction to my favorite episode of the season should in theory go up on my birthday in 4 weeks time! Very excited for that.

Will

I enjoyed your reactions though it's not an episode I re-watch in other contexts! Definitely good to have Rory on the team. I do love the next episode, so looking forward to your reaction to that. 😀

Travis Starnes

It almost seems post mid-life crisis. I think Bpecina was right in saying smith's doctor sometimes seems like he feels old and tired. He's been worn down by all the tragedy life has thrown at him, from the time war to losing Rose and Donna and all the people he couldn't save along the way. He definitely has a more "I'm getting to old for this shit" vibe about him.

John

I was just noticing that a number of my favorite episodes for this season of Doctor Who and this season of TNG will be posted in the same weeks. Those are going to be some fun weeks.

o

I came here to say, that Paula is right, every time she starts to believe in 11 even a little, he yells at somebody.....hahahaha and Kat (sorry I am unsure of the root of the first name and if I spell it German, it may cause issues, hope you don't mind this one time, I will learn the proper spelling for future comments) is seeing him in a whole new light. I think doing it this way having to interact as you too can visually see each other as opposed to side by side has increased both of your viewing vantage points on this. I will count this as a good thing during Covid-19 lockdown, Nature getting to rebound a bit and....yeah that it is.

o

Katrina, I would have been right dagnabbit....better safe then sorry.

Time Lord

You spelled it right! Nicely done! I'm glad you're enjoying the current set up. I've grown to love it as well for some reasons! I hope we get to see each other soon though ☺️ -Kat

everyone has their own opinions and that's why I love reactions. In my opinion Paula is a little too hung up on one angry Matt Smith scene. Why would Rory say thank you after he yelled at Amy if he was doing it to be mean?? Either way I can't way to see you grow to learn more about his version of the doctor and the brilliant (imo) way he shifts emotional tones in a flash.

tal goren

Looking back, it should have been obvious that Rory would be different than Mickey, considering the doctor's first introduction to him wasn't as Amy's boyfriend, but as the guy who was tailing the shape-shifting alien while everyone else were busy looking at the sun.

2023-08-26 16:41:17 I love the way this story shows how much the Doctor has grown and learned from his mistakes with totally messing up Rose and Mickey's relationship before. This time he's the grown-up and steps out of getting in the way and instead works to keep them together (because ultimately he knows even if he wanted to be with Amy non-platonically, they can never REALLY be together in a regular human romance -- something he sort of led Rose on about, when he REALLY REALLY should've known better). I love his new maturity here SO FREAKING MUCH! <3 <3
