So this wraps up series VII and it is an odd episode. The jokes fall a bit flat in places and are a bit samey, especially concerning the Cat. The scene with Kryten and Lister trying the arms is great, as are some of the earlier scenes with a depressed Lister. But obviously very thin on plot and this is basically just to move things along to get to the end and the return of the Dwarf. Overall, I have enjoyed this season a bit more than the last time I watched it. Shame it took about 4 episodes for them to get the Kochanski characterisation settled and bedded in but that is always a problem in these short seasons. But Series VIII. Yeah. Watched once and really didn't like it. Tried to watch it again and found it even worse. For me, and this is obviously only personal, there are just to many missteps in jokes, characterisations, stories and the general way the 'world' is portrayed. Too many jokes that are juvenile or even misogynistic or just plain vile. The McGuffin that sets up the series direction is just mindlessly stupid and illogical. Without giving too much away, the way that some of the cast are portrayed or the info we learn about them just destroys a lot of the series premise for me as well. It stretches credibility of the world this show inhabits so thin. Shame really. So apologies to those who like VIII, I'm glad you do but I find it such a slog. Maybe 2 out of 8 stories are ok (maybe only the 1?). That is ep 4 and possibly 8. Ep1 might have been decent but for "that" joke with the call back to something found in 'Quarantine' but nostalgia can only save it so much. So might see you on the other side if I can't watch through my fingers as I don't think this is going to be pretty.

Another thing you can react to now is "Can't Smeg Won't Smeg". It was a parody of a British cooking show. It has the entire cast doing a cooking show in character including both Kochanski and Rimmer.

Oh, yes! Please! It's hilarious. It kind of cracks me up how Chris Barrie comes across as kind of the peacemaker when things get really out of hand. And they do. Veeeery quickly.
