My Teenage Girl (After School Excitement) Episode 1 Reaction + Full Performances (Patreon)

Parts 1 and 2 are my reaction to the actual full Episode 1.
Part 3 is my reaction to the full length stages after I watched the Episode, as well as some discussion about the episode and my overall thoughts on the pilot episode and how it compares to the pre-show.

Overall I enjoyed this pilot episode of the full "proper" show. I love the judges, I love the stage and the way the setup or intro for each performance is played FOR the judges and that we see that, the same as they do. 

I loved most of the stages, and YES I WAS RIGHT about the Bicycle cover being good. Hyunhee has the kind of pure unfettered charisma that is MIND BLOWING, and she's so good at rapping, dancing, and singing. Jieun also did extremely well, and the "playfight" choreo together was one of the most fun and unique bits of choreo I've seen in a survival show. The other standout performance for me was Ice Cream, they both killed it and the new rap they added was excellent, even though I don't really like that song.

I actually like the idea of having the judges and the crowd pass or fail contestants, but I wish that the order was reversed. I wish that the 3 out of 4 judges had to greenlight a performance to get the doors to open, and then gave their feedback and why they liked or didn't like a performance, and then IF they passed a performance, the crowd could vote. It wouldn't entirely mitigate the superficial voting of "she's pretty so I vote" or pity voting, but I think it would at least make the crowd consider voting for them based on what the judges said, instead of teams like River never getting a chance to even be evaluated based on superficial factors.

The saddest part of this episode was saying goodbye to Weiyi and Yooyeon so soon :( I know Weiyi didn't give a great performance, but I fell in love with her during the pre-show. I have to stop falling for C-Line trainees on these shows. Yooyeon hurts me personally less, but still felt very sad, mostly because she improved so much so quickly, and had the least training time of any of the girls here. I think with just a few months to a year of training, Yooyeon could become a MONSTER performer on stage. I love the way she interacted with everyone, and it's sad that her parents didn't let her try to become an idol sooner. I hope it's not too late for her and she finds some lineup willing to take an older member, because I think she has a lot to give as an idol and entertainer.
