Witch of Cola Curse! コーラで人を呪う魔女！ (Patreon)

I apologize for the long gap between updates.

Since the beginning of June, I caught a severe cold and was bedridden with a high fever and cough for over 10 days...

Fortunately, I tested negative for COVID-19, and now I have almost fully recovered.

Thanks to your support, I was able to get plenty of rest. Thank you once again.

I have returned to work and completed a new illustration, so today I am delivering a lecture on youkai!

Today, I introduce to you the "Witch of Cola Curse" from Mexico!

The other day, while watching this YouTube video, I came across an unexpected story.

In the folk beliefs of Chamula, Chiapas, Mexico, it is thought that witches use cola to curse people.

According to a female shaman who appears around the 17-minute mark, witches use cola and dried fish to cast a curse that causes diabetes.

However, cola is also considered sacred and is used to break the witch's curse. (It seems to follow the idea of returning what the witch used in her prayers.)

The issues discussed in this video are serious, and I feel they cannot be lightly used as material for manga.

However, the image of a "Mexican witch using cola for curses" was so vivid that I was inspired to draw something!

So, this time, I drew the "Witch of Cola" with the idea that one of the Mexican witches, Bruja, has incorporated the curse believed in Chamula into her own magic and transformed into a youkai.

She might be a member of the "World Legion of Youkais" and master the cola magic inspired by Chamula's cola beliefs.

Having done this illustration was a good rehabilitation for me, so I want to get back to drawing the main story of 'Anime-Tamae!' and other main projects, while taking care of my health.

先日こちらのYoutube動画を見ていたら、思いがけない話が出てきました。

メキシコはチアパス州、チャムラの民間信仰においては、魔女がコーラを使って人を呪うと考えられているのだそうです。

17分頃から登場する女性シャーマンによると、魔女はコーラと乾いた魚を使って、呪いで人を糖尿病にしてしまうと言います。

しかし同時にコーラは聖なるものでもあり、魔女の呪いを解く際にもコーラを使います。（魔女が祈りに使ったものを返す、という考え方のようです）

この動画で語られている問題は重大で、安易に漫画の題材にはできないと感じますが――

しかし「コーラを呪いに使うメキシコの魔女」というイメージはあまりに鮮烈で、なにか描いてみたい！というインスピレーションを受けました。

そこで今回は――

メキシコの魔女Brujaの1人が、チャムラで信じられている呪いを自らの魔術に取り入れ、姿を変えた妖怪…というイメージで「コーラの魔女」を描いてみました。

彼女は世界妖怪軍団の関係者であり、チャムラのコーラ信仰に着想得たコーラ魔術を使いこなす…のかもしれません。

今回の絵で良いリハビリができたので、再び『あにめたまえ！』本編や各連載の執筆に向けて、健康を整えていきたいと思います。
