Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the new patrons! I do hope you stay around.

I hope everyone is excited for the release tomorrow?

I'll be brutally honest it is ready now but I want to try and add even more than I promised so what I've done so far as an extra is added Tiffany to the beach with a short conversation, Rookie Barnes to the Jail with a short conversation and I'm going to put Izunna and Malik in the game with a short conversation as well. If I do it means every area now has at least 1 event in! Yay!

Anyway as to the 2nd part of the title, some of you may or may not know SIMBRO, they are a team who have been on here for over a year and at their peak were earning 18,000$ per month. They have for the past few months delayed their updates and as of 1st October not released at all. This means quite a few upset people to say the least.

I was a patron of theirs since version 0.5 of their game, a year before I even knew ANYTHING about creating, they motivated me in part with a few other creators to actually start learning....and now....they have gone the way of breeding season (which I was also a patron of).

Which leads me to the 3rd part of the title...a dilemma. Because I was an old boy on the simbro page and everyone knew me, the moment the game went tits up a lot of folks were eying me up to take the assets and idea and continue it. I considered it, even bought the books on C# and Unity to either do that or create Valia: Life of a Succubus 2. A few people have approached and asked me to create something with playshapes sprites, the ones simbro uses. But the dilemma is this...

I already have a project and I already have loyal patrons who have stuck with me through thick and thin and who I have got to know. I've had another guy ask me to work with him on his version of it (people are starting to make their own version of it). The problem is 3 fold....

1) If I abandon my current project and start my own SIMBRO game - I end up the exact same as SIMBRO, someone who just took the money and left with an incomplete project, a slap in the face to all of you who have stuck by me through thick and thin, all of you who are forgiving of the fact that it's a visual novel game and just love it for me or for the story and...I just can't do that, I don't care that it could get me the 18K they had if I did, because I would forever be tainted as a money grabbing corporate wanker rather than a creator of art that makes people happy.

2) I could do both at the same time - If I do this I would be able to release both on time, but the quantity of stuff will be less for both, progress for both would be slow, maybe an update for Valia one month and the next month the other game. I don't know if that would be good. You're all paying for this and I don't want to give small time updates.

3) Just keep doing this and don't do a SIMBRO game - If I do this, then everyone who has asked me to do something gets nothing, I end up just as responsible for SIMBRO failing as they were because I will have stood there, with the ability to learn how to do it and done nothing! I could have saved it and I didn't!

As you can see, it's heavy thoughts...

I REPEAT THOUGH: VALIA: LIFE OF A SUCCUBUS 0.6. IS READY FOR RELEASE TOMORROW. I'm just adding extra stuff before the deadline.

But yeah, this is why I've been a little quiet for a while.

Sorry to bug you all. Thank you for letting me get that off my chest.

-Apo

Number 3 is bullshit man. It's in no way your fault that the original creators failed to deliver, and as you correctly explain in 1 and 2, you already have an obligation towards your own project and your own patreons. No one could expect you at this point to take up someone elses failed project, and this makes you in absolutely no way responsible for it failing. You did not stand there and do nothing while watching it fail, you stood there hard at work with your own thing. You really should not feel guilty about saying no, if anything you should feel guilty about even thinking of taking on simbro, knowing full well that Valia would suffer for it. And anyone expecting you to take on simbro and beeing obnoxious or mean to you about not taking it is a jerk and should be ashamed of himself.

I think you should just continue valia with your ideas. Simbro did a lot, have also followed it for over a year, and lately it has just felt boring. It would require a lot to spark new life into that game, it is a fine game now and can easily be played as is, whereas valia needs all your love, creativity and will go learn 😊

I know that intellectually, doesn't stop me from feeling it though. maybe it'll pass in time. I'm gonna log off, I've been this computer since I got back from work, gonna have a few hours on '7 Days to Die' and then go to bed for work in the morning. Thank you though. I appreciate the sentiment.

Create your content, don't let the feelings for other's failures/delays influence your job. If you have enought time and energy and a good staff to create 2 projects at the same time, well... It's another thing, but for now, keep going! You seem dedicated to your project.

Do your own thing and create your own game... you want to earn a reputation as a creator, not a finisher or copier... the rewards are better that way.

Oh and always hated a tease......but will forget this time lmao

Wolfstar5

If you do make a Simbro type game I have dialogue and storyarches that I can send you. Also to save time and energy make it an adventure type game instead of a brothel competitor since so many people are doing the brothel thing. I stand beside whatever decision you make.

centerflag982

Meh, just do your own thing. You don't owe anyone anything over *someone else's* failure.

You do you Apo.

Just like it seams all others here have already said it: Focus on your own game Apo. Maybe when Valia is all done and completed, you can create a brothel game parody to satisfy the old Simbro crowd, which I'm also part of (as I guess some already know by now?). It would be bad to split your focus too much, so finish one thing before starting on a new project. If you need distractions while on a project, write down notes on what you would like to create in the future, also for new projects, that way you already have creative ideas when getting around to them. Please don't stress yourself more than needed and remember to relax, find your inner peace :-)

Lou on Apo's wall! Yes!! The 3 most profilic posters from the old Simbro days gathered together once again! Oh how I've missed that :D

Icarusmedia

I don't write to tease but just to keep my patrons informed of what I am doing and what I am putting in for you all. :-)

Fallen Angel Creations

right, and just think a brothel with no cheap ani would make it much better also some one that will fix bugs before uplode so they do not compound and break the game totaly

The thing is, there's already so many brothel games ... to be brutally honest, who needs another one? ;-) Also, I don't really like the idea of ripping off another game. You already have your own creation, and I think you should focus on that. It's a good game. Do you intend to add sounds and music later? Voice acting would be cool too, but probably also difficult and/or expensive. Sorry if you answered this already, I'm writing this spontaneously and don't feel like looking through all the comments of all your posts right now. :-) On the other hand, am I the only one who noticed that Simbro has the same graphics Strumpets used to have? I'm not really sure what happened there, but it seemed a bit strange to me, Strumpets suddenly changing the look completely a few years ago, and shortly after, Simbro was created. I'm curious, anyone know more about that?

Icarusmedia

The sprites simbro uses come from an artist called playshapes. They are free to use and modify. Strumpets probably wanted a unique look.
