An old thing I've never shared - I was almost commissioned to illustrate some organisms for a scientific book, but, I couldn't quite make them "photoreal" enough to match the art they already had. All I got done was this larval gordian worm. This is the thing that makes crickets drown themselves! This stage in its life cycle is just devoted to drilling through an exoskeleton, then it takes on the long thread-like adult form.
