Hi there guys,

So, after yesterday's question on what you might like to see a full dev log on, regarding some of the lore around Quest Failed, an overwhelming amount of you have asked about the human/monster relations and how they work in this world. Of which I'll be more than happy to base this particular dev log on~ So get nice and comfy and prepare yourself for lots and lots of words!

Humans and monsters don't get along. This is something that has been established very early on in the first chapter, though never quite explained as to why this is the case. In a lot of instances, humans seem far more aggressive towards monsters, than monsters do with them. The reason for this boils down to two main factors:
  • 1.  A large number of humans, especially in the most established, larger kingdoms, have deep-seated xenophobic beliefs against monsterkind that have been tightly held onto from generation to generation, culminating in humans that have been 'pre-programmed' to despise monsters without even fully knowing why themselves. Though few question this and simply live their lives happily within the walls of their towns, content with the way things are.

But then, surely this hatred must have stemmed from somewhere, right?

If one was to dig deep enough in the history books, they might uncover scarce details on an ancient war--one of humans against monsters. Though the details as to why they were fighting are hazy, as is information on who commanded each side.

Given the state of the world now though, it's safe to assume the humans won this war, their kingdoms dominating the land, with monsters forced to live either in the wild, or out of sight in their far more secretive societies.

Perhaps there's a lingering fear that if monsters were to be treated as equals, they might one day band together again and threaten to overthrow the humans. So for this reason they try to keep them as scattered as possible and refuse to acknowledge them as anything more than a nuisance that needs to be snuffed out.

  • 2. Even the most civil, intelligent monsters can devolve into a lust-driven frenzy if given the circumstances, requiring the frequent consumption of male seed to remain in a healthy state of mind. This leaves them highly unpredictable and puts even the most tolerant of humans in a constant state of uneasiness when around them.

This has led to a number of instances where more open humans have given monsters a chance and attempted to integrate with their kind--only for it to end in disastrous and unfortunately predictable ways. Though these reports are heavily skewed and biased, serving as propaganda that outlets dish out, maybe in an effort to keep the fear and hatred alive.

This isn't to say that all attempts for humans and monsters to coexist in one settlement have failed, however. Though, these instances are far less documented and are instead hidden away from the public eye for fear of what higher authorities might do if they caught wind of such a place.

So, essentially, the age long hatred of monsterkind comes down to a combination of an ancient conflict having left a deep, negative imprint on the minds of humans, along with monsters themselves having demonstrated their more...lustful traits time and time again which has created a negative image in the heads of most--but not all--humans.

And given that monsters were essentially pushed back and forced to live more primitive lifestyles, regressing from whatever they may have had before, they were unable to accurately record and document their own histories. Over the years the younger generation of monsters has come to be, along with little knowledge as to why humans might hate them as much as they do, only knowing as much as that they should keep themselves hidden--much like an instinct that has developed naturally.

And, possibly you might learn more as you play in Chapter Two, though that's the general gist of things~

Apologies for any rambling or incoherence that might crop up at points--it was a task and a half forming my notes into more readable entries for you all, haha. If there's something you feel doesn't make sense--or you need more clarification on, feel free to ask in the comments and I can respond, potentially amend what I have up here for everyone's benefit.

Thank you all for reading~

I'll soon having something up that talks about the particular 'classes' of monsters and how they're categorised in the world.

Has there been any women in society that may, I don't know, be jealous of the MGs for there way of life and may want to try and turn into them through sorcery or whatnot?

Also do MG's need male seed to survive or could they sustain themselves on *ahem* a woman's 'fluids'? Just curious because of Ruby's attraction to women.

There's definitely ways to turn into a monster girl--or become a hybrid of sorts. Which some might desire due to the increase in power over a regular human body, for example. But then it goes the other way, too, where some monster girls may want to try and disguise themselves as human, desiring the more civilised life a human leads.

Frostworks

Male seed satisfies their hunger the most--though they can substitute it for other things that might be considered essence of life too, like blood for example.
