Yeah, like the first comment posted said, Ash's original VA, Veronica Taylor, was forced to leave the role against her will, and she was very upset about that. All of the original VAs were replaced regardless of their opinion. The Pokémon Company International was looking for cheaper options for the dub, so they terminated their contract with 4Kids, and so all the voices had to be changed. This was also sort of the beginning of 4Kids downfall, which led them to bankruptcy.

So a weird thing about Molly's mom is that, they don't explain her even in the Japanese ver. It seems like the screenplay writer, Takeshi Shudo, who was the head writer for the anime for its first 200+ episodes, intended for Molly's mom to be dead, but the studio kind of went behind his back and added her in the final credits. According to the databook for this movie, Molly's mom was actually sick and in the hospital, which is why she was gone, but Shudo hated that because it completely contradicted his screenplay for Molly to be a child desperate for a mother. It also made kidnapping Ash's mom completely pointless too in his opinion, since she already has a mom. Because of that, he didn't want to write for any more of the Pokémon movies, making this the final movie he wrote for.
