Of all the tens of thousands of paintings I've seen and worked on, there's one type that has the ability to consistently capture my attention and heart and that's portraiture.  Even though this painting has no title, belongs to no artist and has been all but lost to history, one look tells us that there's something magical here worth preserving.

Ok only vaguely related question. I was talking to an artist a few months ago. His painting got damaged on the way to a gallery for a show. They took it to be conserved. He got to see them doing it in the process. They were working on the retouching, and he was like oh I have my paints and just fixed it how he would. The conservationist was upset. How do you think you’d react?
