Well, most of you guys wanted to see this one, so here it is. My full length reaction to the 1973 movie/rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar.
Musically it really is brilliant, there are no talking parts, everything is sung and the music always goes perfectly with the character and the storyline. That being said, is the story really Biblically accurate? I wouldn't say so, but I explain more in the video. I really can't wait to hear your thoughts about this one, I'm sure we'll have a great conversation in the comment section. 😁

I'm aware of the inaccuracy can be distracting, however, remember Judas is an untrustworthy narrator. This is from his perspective so he felt betrayed and dismissed by Jesus so, for instance, at that last supper he only heard Jesus as angry and arrogant. In the temple scene, if I recall correctly it was the Sabath and they were running a market in the temple instead of praying. In the song Gethsemane. a few Apostles did try to stay up with him but repeatedly fell asleep while he prayed. For all the anachronistic things (i.e. guns and tanks and planes) I think it was a stylistic choice to show how out matched the people were against the Romans to drive the point Judas was making about how foolish it would be to fight back right now. Please remember that while Catholics believe he is the Lord when he was alive he was just a man. He doubted several times but always came back to the Lord. If he did not have the same free will as Man his sacrifice would mean nothing. He made his choice to die so that we may all be forgiven our original sin.

Interesting, thanks for clarifying some things. When you say that this is all from Judas persepctive, things make more sense, I can't believe I didn't realize that while watching. Maybe I should have read a bit about the movie befor watching it. The tanks make sense more now as well

Wow, I just read that Andrew Lloyd Webber said that opening night was the worst night of his life. He said the production was a vulgar travesty. I am reading in Google.

I think I've actually seen that somewhere. But I bet people reacted in anger or disappointment to the not so Biblical moments too
