When Mahito used his domain, anything inside it was in the palm of his hands. That is, he was in touch with any living beings' soul by default, inside his domain. All he needed to hurt his enemies is to use his transfiguration technique. It will automatically land on the enemy by theory. When Yuji entered the domain, Mahito came in contact with his and Sukuna's soul as well, by default, which is what backfired for him. As for how Sukuna overpowered him so easily with just 3 fingers strength, I don't get it. Cuz if Mahito's buddy volcano head was 8 fingers strong then Mahito must be around that level too, I assume. But Sukuna is apparently still stronger with his presence.
