I think your opinion at the end there is almost exactly in line with mine, and I would say most fans thoughts on this arc. Was it decent? Yes. Could it have been better if they made the tone darker and took more story risks like the last arc tried to? 10000% yes. It's funny; 271 came out at a time when the manga was starting to make pretty significant developments; and the community had the tiniest hope that it might actually kill off Kae; simply because it would lead into what Kawaki was up to in the manga perfectly. But because of production timing and all that; we knew there was no way it was actually going to happen. Even so; the arc official finishes next ep. So you're about to start what is probably universally considered the best anime-canon arc of this batch. [Though, they pull some tricky stuff with the first two eps lol]
