So it should be noted that the Avatar reincarnation isn't random; The cycle of the Elements is specifically Water -> Earth -> Fire -> Air -> Back to Water again. Both the reincarnation of the Avatar and the order they are supposed to master the elements in always flows forward in that cycle. And as for what happens if the Avatar goes bad; no spoilers but while it's not impossible, it would be *EXEEDINGLY* hard for an Avatar to be evil, and you'll find out why later on.
