Erika swung by the bay area for the first time this weekend and we hooked up and shot a bunch of scenes and accidentally shot some 4k video(??)

Lemme explain..

Remember a few months back I picked up a Sony A7r II to replace my Canon 6D? Well, I'm still learning all the ins and outs and one of the ins (or outs) is that when you save a manual settings photo profile, it carries with it the video settings as well. Usually I shoot lower resolution with a really high framerate to achieve that smooth slow motion look, this time, however, I unknowingly shot in 4k30 mode, leaving me with 'real-time' video to edit. SOOOO I decided to try my hand at some 4K ultrawide editing and the resulting video is pretty damn good! If you have a 4k or ultrawide monitor, you're really in for a treat with this set!

Already got approval btw:

That video looks so good, well done! do you think you’re going to start doing more 4K videos like this?

I think if I had more time to focus on the video aspect, I could do more 4k work. The problem is even with a gimbal the footage isn't exactly super steady so you don't really get good clean footage from it. It doesn't help that I don't have IS on the lens, either. Shooting in 1080p at 60fps is great because then I can slow down the footage and really make it classy looking. Although, now that I can see how good the footage comes out, I may have to try shooting more 4k30 in the future and mix it in with the 1080p60

Thanks for this insight, regarding 1080p vs 4K.
