What started as a reference photo turned out to be a pretty stellar angelic looking set! Duffy sent me a beautiful photo that only this morning I was able to track down the actual owner of (romakphoto on insta, if you're curious), and asked if we could shoot something similar. I happened to have a nice collection of pearl neck pieces, and I almost never shoot with the light directly overhead so I was definitely up for the challenge. In the original, I could see that they are in a much larger space than the studio can afford me, so I used the biggest modifier I could without having it dip down into the frame to give the illusion of a larger studio.

This year I've seen a large increase in younger models providing their own reference photos for looks they want to achieve, and I'm finding that mixing those in with my own concepts has been a great way to keep the model happy and coming back for more as they seem to want to collab on a deeper level more than just letting the photographer dictate the shoot. It's also giving me a nice technical workout and the freedom to incorporate some of my own themes. Moving the mounted front light directly over the model is something I'll be experimenting with more in the future now, thanks to this shoot!
