I can't emphasize how much I really love this show overall, but damn it nows how to kick you when you're down. Hughes' death is right up there in the traumatizing moments in my life.

As to why the opening changed it's quite normal for anime to change the opening and endings songs each time they get into a new story arc, which is typically around 12 to 13 episodes but sometimes it's a little more.
