Yeah, kind of my problem with the way Kuvira is introduced in this season hits in this episode. She's so overtly and immediately setup as the villain that all the other character's being slow on the uptake is truly maddening. I mean as bad as Unalaq was at least you could question his motives up to a point. Still though, I do think Kuvira is a better character in the long run and despite some glaring issues I do enjoy this season a ton. Loving the reactions!

Yeah, famous slow burn villains Amon and Zaheer... Unalaq is the only seasonal villain that had mysterious motivations. People just love hating on Kuvira.

Just mean that there was no intention of an “omg they’re bad…” moment for the characters with Amon and Zaheer like there was meant to be with both Unalaq and Kuvira. But you’re right, people do tend to just hate on her character which is a bummer. I like Kuvira in the story, just one of the more clumsily introduced characters. My problem with Unalaq is that he was just literally a mustache twirly bad guy doin bad things cause that’s what bad guys do.

To be fair the previous 2 Earth Kingdom rulers were trash and the heir was looking like more of the same. I would absolutely support overthrowing them.

That is a perfect way to describe the first villains of the show. Bad guys who do bad things because thats what bad guys do. None of them had a plan for what is next. Amon and Zaheer would have just been stomped by the rest of the world 5 seconds after they finish their plan and Unalaq was just dumb. I don't think people hate on Korra, I think they point out very true flaws of the show and other people just get overly offended about a cartoon.

Kuvira is bad. She's the head of a military dictatorship with no mandate. She's terrible! Here's where she's coming from: The Earth Queen ran a horrible kingdom, then Zaheer killed her. Korra was out of play. The Earth Kingdom was in chaos - riots, bandits, nobody helping. The world leaders begged Su-Yin to help but she just wanted to vibe in Zaofu (valid!). Kuvira says "I'll do it", fixes Ba-Sing Se, starts fixing the rest. The World Leaders' plan is for Kuvira to spend 3 hard years getting things safe enough for them to pop Prince Wu on the throne along with ministers who Raiko and others hand-picked. It's a bad plan. This is a shitty situation. Another shitty King/Queen (possibly worse, with the new ministers). The answer is NOT to establish a military dictatorship haha. But it's easy for me to see why Kuvira would be like "fuck this guy." Kuvira sucks but Raiko is naive for legitimizing her + expecting she'd just hand it over to some random shitty prince.

Amon's plan was actually decent - take over Republic City and then use that as leverage in negotiations, with every bender in power terrified that Amon would appear and take their bending away (and non-benders finally feeling like they have a shot at power). I think the world would have won eventually but it would have been a long slog, requiring all the nations to team up. President Raiko (a non-bender) was elected as a direct response to non-benders feeling powerless in the wake of Amon being outed, so in many ways he had a lasting impact. Zaheer was genuinely naive but in his defence his plan was "kill all world leaders + end the avatar cycle" lol. I think he could have achieved it, or at least killed Korra and 1 or 2 more. The less said about Unalaq the better 😂 his plan was hilarious
