One of the best reactions I've seen to "Run"

Kara

BCS is gonna be a trip. They're gonna LOVE Kim.

I dont think Jesse wanting to kill the gangsters was a trauma response. I mean killing isn't good, but aside from that, it's not really a bad thing. He's connecting with a girl, and he sees that a literal child is dead. We've seen that Jesse has genuine compassion for people, but yeah pair that with drugs, that's how we escalate to violence. But I wouldn't say Jesse is like Walt. He's not neccesarily innocent, but he's managed to keep humanity in this business which is very rare. I would say him falling back into harmful cycles is stuff like trying to sell meth at a group of people trying to get rid of their bad habits. He's an addict, and that's a very difficult thing to shake. Jane wasn't really toxic when they were apart. She was clean and fine when she met Jesse. But one relapse on her and that is when toxicity begins. Not because Jane is a bad person, she wasn't, but because two addicts together who are both on something is a recipe for pure disaster. I'm so happy you guys are liking Mike more, I love his character and it's wild how close he was to not existing. Jonathan Banks is fantastic and I adore every scene He's in. I'm so excited for the finale!

Great reaction! One of my fav details about the show is that they didn't plan the entire series from the jump, they build each season as a writers room in prep for that season. I think there's this myth that all the seasons of a show need to be outlined from Day 1, which is a valid thing to do when done well, but can result in rigid structural choices that don't adapt to the shifting stories over time (I'm sure we can all think of shows like this where the predestined ending feels forced). For Breaking Bad (and Better Call Saul) they take what happened before and build on top of it, telling the exact story they want to tell and adapting greatly based off feedback, vibe, actors etc. Characters like Jesse and Mike grow organically out of this to become the best in the show - neither would exist if the show rigidly stuck to its initial outlines.

If you thought this was intense, wait till you see the next episode

Wanting to do the next episode straight away, does this mean we're getting the next one early lol

Wen Maple True Crime podcast??

Chris Bruneau

I went back and rewatched the post-view discussion. Maple and Arianna are so so right! Walt is always the "alpha" in the room, but when Mike tells his story, Walt is clearly intimidated by him, like he realizes--"this here is a REAL bad guy." Jonathan Banks who plays Mike can be F'ing scary, and will demonstrate that again next week.

lol, your expectations are funny. It's fun to project on characters, but for Walt, it wasn't easy to embrace the bad side because he spent 51 years being good, despite the pride and ego he developed as an accomplished scientist. If Walt's character changed within the span of a season, it'd truly be less compelling and dishonest for this kind of human transformation. Some people might need to bargain with themselves at certain times. You'll say there's no "line" to evil, but for someone like Walt spiraling and losing their humanity, you'll keep moving the goal posts and redrawing lines to justify it. Might not be everyone's cup of tea, tho...pacing wise. But yeah...he absolutely sees Jesse as his son. This was almost spelled out for us during that bar conversation with Jane's dad. Great insights, tho! Hope you're enjoying it.

You mean the rest of the show? This is just getting started, I had to take a few breaks during these seasons because this show is so stressful.

Daunte Johnson

Loved the discussion about Jesse’s character at the end. It’s what makes him such a complex and well written character.

No one talks about how courageous Jessie was for standing up to Gus when no else would. For all of his faults, Jessie stands up for ideals while Walt often looks past them when it is convenient for him.
