Honestly Im Team Tom, him and Shiv have their faults but he's always been honest with her. He does love her and the only thing she has against him is his betrayal at the season 3 finale but she didnt give him anything to reassure that he had to align himself with her and not the behemoth that is Logan. Also Kendall is baby girl.

This is literally one of the best shows I've ever watched. The way the writers are able to build tension over 4 seasons and just let it overflow in moments like the balcony scene between Shiv and Tom is amazing. And the way the actors are able to express the character's emotions while also showing that they can't emote properly is a masterclass. I'm always in a state of duress when I'm watching because all the players in the game are so unpredictable, yet predictable? They fall into their self-destructive patterns over and over and don't want to accept the consequences of their actions. I genuinely feel for all the characters, even though literally all of them are assholes, and that's a testament to how great this show really is.

Everything that both Tom and Shiv said were true, that's what makes this show so emotionally dynamic, nobody is in the ultimate right. While almost everyone will lean Tom because he tends more towards emotional honesty, the truth is yes, he is servile and parochial, and yes a big motivator for him wanting to be with Shiv is the proximity to power it affords him, and eventually we see that when it came down to Shiv or Logan, he chose Logan. But what if Shiv were kinder to him in the lead up to that decision? We'll never know. Too many what if's to consider in this infinite chasm of emotional complexity.

Just a great episode. Really looking forward to next week's too. The Tom and Shiv convo is the highlight and long overdue - you can say anything about the show, but you can't say the conversations don't feel REAL. I feel like I just eavesdropped on a couple I know hashing it out lol. Lots of subtle detail in this ep. I love how they deconstructed Mattson, I was worried the show would lean into the myth of the genius autistic-coded billionaire coder but this episode implies he's just as much of a BS performance as Ken or Rome or Shiv. Con is a joke but he genuinely loves and respects Willa and that's so funny and good. Mattson in the background pointing to himself (that Maple noticed).... Succession is a comedy show.

Cant wait to see the reactions for next 3 episodes. This season was absolute perfection and it never stopped impressing. The election episode is a mess, in the best way possible

I love the metaphor of Tom giving Shiv the scorpion as a gift because it alludes to the folktale of the turtle and the scorpion. It's exactly Shiv and Tom's relationship. I love this explanation on google of the moral of the story: "vicious people cannot resist hurting others even when it's not in their own interest" Shiv has been vicious all 4 seasons but end of season 3 and now season 4 we can see Tom being vicious as well to secure his spot even if it crumbles their relationship. Especially, since he doesn't know Shiv is pregnant. They are hurting each other and have no clue if their plays are going to work for them. Like Tom said when he gave Shiv the gift, "You kill me. I kill you." And, Tom gutted Shiv during their explosive argument. Now we have to see Shiv's response and how she's going to "kill" him. The writing is insane and Succession has made me learn about the financial sector, roman history and mythology, Shakespeare (s4 is inspired by Richard III), poetry (every title for the finale is a quote from "Dream Song 29 by John Berryman --- and I analyzed the poem so much that I was able to correctly predict the successor for the series finale) plus all the random references to historical people and large vocabulary words. I watched the show live and became an obsessed nerd and was deep in Succession twitter every Sunday night. I highly recommend reading the essays and review that were written. Listening to the HBO succession podcast for interviews with the cast and jesse armstorg. There is so much supplemental material that makes you appreciate the show 10x more. Succession is a dense text. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
