Allllrighty. So Roma/Gypsies/Travelers, much like the Ashkenazi Jews who still carry bloodlines from their place of origin but have interbred along the way, especially in their chosen locations where families have bunkered down. The Shelby's are Romani primarily on Aunt Polly's side if I'm not mistaken. For much of European history, and still today to an extent, Southern Europeans such as Italians or Spanish were and are seen as "Low Europeans". Roma would be a tier under that. Unfortunately, stereotypes come from truthful places and it's a legit thing that the Romani are not opposed to sorceries and theft and tricky haggling. Alot of it is cultural. But just like any stereotype, it only goes so far. Regardless in the show the Shelby brothers (besides Finn) fought in WWI and came home to Birmingham. The term "Pikey" is a derogatory term for "Traveler" which is a UK term for the Roma, specifically the UK Roma. The Lee family is another family of Roma but they don't live in the city. Unlike the Shelby's who are more recently mixed and modern, the Lee's live in the fields in caravans Hope that clears things up a tad.
