The tentacle in my throat pushed in relentlessly, going beyond what’s humanely possible. It should have choked me, but I felt my neck gave way, the red fluid melting flesh and tendon painlessly.

How am I still alive?, the thought flashed through my muddled mind, the alien drug leaving me in a dream-like state.

The mass of tentacles spread their mucus across every inch of my body, my limbs became numb, turning into literal jelly. They melted and flowed, forming a pool of red, brown and purple. The tentacles kept the fluids contained, forming a fleshy wall while the rest pushed and kneaded on the fluid, sending foreign sensations into my mind.

As my body broke, so did my mind: Memories of my childhood flashed before me, familiar but different; my first ice-cream melting in my hand, but my hand melting along with it; hiding from my father, squeezing into the narrow gap behind the cupboard; reading a novel late into the night, but realized I never turned the lights on.

A cold thought oozed its way in, What an awfully boring life, don’t you think? Won’t it be better to live serving a Queen?

New memories wormed its way into my fading consciousness: Flowing inside the city’s storm-drains, exploring places I’ve never been to before; Spying on celebrities, hidden in places no humans could; and finally, returning to the loving embrace of my Queen’s tentacles.

My fractured mind nodded, mostly agreeing with the inner thought. Yesss…., the cold thought brought new clarity, reforming my mind in a new manner. What little remained of the original Teressa that resisted were soon silenced, locked up in a small corner of the mind.
