Happy August, Wonderers! I hope your week is off to a great start! Last week was filled with several unpleasant surprises, including the unidentifiable illness that seemingly never ends (still not covid 🤷‍♀️), finding mold in the house (😬), and dealing with said mold (🚧) among other things. BUT, despite all that, morale is high around here and I will take the joy anyplace I can.

Here’s what’s what this week in the WWC:

  1. Wednesday’s early access to my public YouTube video is a vlog from when I took my new truck (yes, I know it’s an SUV but I call it a truck affectionately, so please humor me 🚙) on her maiden voyage and put the first 800 miles on the odometer. So fun! I’m loving getting to know her and am pumped to bring you along for every step of this new adventure.
  2. I’m sharing my morning routine for our community exclusive video on Friday. I filmed my evening routine a few weeks ago and there were some requests for the morning version, too. I do have a haul planned but I ended up ordering a few more things over the weekend, so I’m going to wait until everything arrives to share.
  3. I’m looking for your input about YouTube comments. I explain this more in depth in the update video, but essentially, I’ve come to a point where I no longer wish to engage in the comments on YouTube even behind the scenes, which I currently do as I moderate them and read every single one that comes in before approving or deleting. I haven’t really engaged in comments publicly (through replies) since I launched the WWC. I struggle with this lingering sense of moral obligation to keep the comments turned on over there. In the beginning of my YouTube journey lo so many years ago, it felt like an integral part of the YouTube experience and I really enjoyed engaging in the comments and building a community in that way. But it’s been probably about a decade since that felt like a positive experience for me. And honestly, I’m not sure it feels as important to YouTube anymore. One of the many things I love about our community is the comments and chatting with you here (don’t worry, comments aren’t changing here!). I’d like to focus all of my engagement energy here and either turn off YouTube comments altogether (definitely the safer route but is it “right”??) or just let them all fly and totally ignore them (it will 100% turn into a sh*t show, guaranteed, which can be slightly amusing but ultimately is just a depressing reflection on the lack of compassion and rampant unhappiness of folks these days). Thoughts? I’d love to know what you think.

Here’s to a fresh new week and a new month ahead. May your August be filled with beautiful memories and good health. Onward, friends!

❤️, Jen

Well done for eagle eye kids! Glad the mould problem has now been fixed.❤️

Comments on your travel gift guide compelled me to join this community. It was mortifying the things being said. Joining the WWC felt like a small way I could give you a virtual pat on the back. As someone that has a VERY small platform on YouTube I’ve found that a highly critical comment clearly intended just to be nasty can high jack my day. Even if I delete it the personal damage has been done. Do the comments in any way disrupt your peace? If so, I would turn them off. Not sure it is possible to fully avoid them and leave the comments on. YouTube seems to plaster those darn comments in a way that makes them unavoidable for the creators. In theory messing with the almighty algorithm is the trade off. You can always turn them back on after some time passes. Take care and be well. 🥰
